I happen to live in "Race City", so although I am not a NASCAR fan, I do hear the news about that sport. I read that one of the retired drivers killed himself and that he had been depressed from a long battle with chronic pain. It made me so sad that that was the only solution he felt he had. We all know chronic pain can be depressing, but I can't help but wonder about his support network.

This forum has been such a god send to me. I only joined a month ago, but the overwhelming support and positive attutude has lifted so much of the burden from me. Having this forum to vent to, ask questions of , or just feel not so alone has changed my outlook for the better. Being able to help someone else, and get help from you all is a blessing! I can't help but think that if that man had had the kind of support I get here he might have seen another option.

Yes, not a Nascar fan either, but it was sad to read of Dick Trickle's death. Hard to believe someone with his former fame and wealth, and obviously a lot of fans at one point, would suddenly find himself in a situation where he thought his life had no value left. Wish I knew more of the circumstances surrounding him in the last couple of years before his death.

This forum has the same great value to me, as you described above, so I understand where you are coming from. Individually, we may feel weak, alone, and in pain, but together, we make up a strong chain of people - helping one another, lifting up those having a bad moment or spell, letting each other vent off anger, frustrations , and pain. That's what its all about, but here at HW CP - it's the real thing.

I know how you feel care. I don't know where I would be, or what I would be doing without my family here. I love them all, and I have gotten so much support. I find myself thanking you all for the support. I'm glad that you joined our family. Take care.

Hello Care and I feel the same way.

I am a NASCAR fan and live in Daytona.

I was saddened by the death of Trickles as well and I wonder how often this actually happens that we don't hear about. If it hadn't been for his family sharing that information it would have just been another celebrity suicide. He actually had undiagnosed chronic pain for several years.

A little stats on Trickle, he had over 1200 wins in his career and for those of you Tom Cruise fans his movie "Days of Thunder " in which he portrayed a race driver "Cole Trickle " was taken from the life and racing career of Dick.

Those of you who haven't seen the movie and are interested in Trickles early racing career may be able to find it at Netflix. He was over the years in several major accidents as I imagine many many bumps and hard knocks possibly contributing to his last years battling chronic pain.

My heart goes out to his family and friends. He had lost a granddaughter to a car accident and choose her gravesite in which to take his life.

I was even more sad to hear his family say he's gone but at least his horrible debilitating pain is over and we don't have to watch him suffer anylonger.

Why was it ever necessary for a family to watch someone they love suffer to that extent?
