Hi.

Got sorted and as for the scan. Well have to go meet a surgeon now :( looks like surgery for me. :/ I know it will be for the best but I'm scared.

If anyone who reads this has had gall bladder surgery. Please let me know what happens after? How is your diet? Etc.

I had emergency gall bladder surgery after an acute attack of pancreatitis way back in 1983. You live in a new age where it can be removed with a couple or three small holes. Back then, I had to have full open surgery, and still have a 9 1/2 inch scar to show for it. Was in the hospital around 10 days.

As far as diet, I was kept on a very bland diet for six month post surgery. I don't know what the current thinking is these days. Had to stay away from anything spicy and/or fried in particular, I do remember that. To this day, I still avoid heavily fried foods, and have almost zero tolerance for spicy food.

Hope your surgery goes well. I am under the impression that most gall bladder surgery is done now as a day surgery, hope that is the case for you too.

I've had quite a few laparoscopic surgeries including removal of my appendix but haven't had the gallbladder one and yes, they are all same day surgeries now. I was there in the morning and home by the afternoon:)

The biggest issue afterwards is the trapped air that they put in to blow things up to see everything. It takes a few days to go away but can be a bit uncomfortable up in your shoulders/chest.

With all of my laps I was great after a week of rest and needed minimal pain meds for the first few days.

I do have one of my best girlfriends who just had the gallbladder surgery a few years ago and she only had mild pain the first few days and then was good to go as well. She said it was the best thing she has done!!!

Your Dr. will give you all the after surgery instructions for eating and building up your fiber, eating smaller meals, choosing lower fat items, etc.

I know that any surgery can be scary but truly, most people feel so much less pain after having this done and can get back to their normal lives and not have anymore "attacks".

So everything went well with your Dr. and showing them the police report? Did you end up getting your new prescription on time or did you end up having withdrawals? Just curious since we were all so worried for you in your other thread about the stolen meds...

Had mine out about 8 yrs ago by lap - 3 small cuts. Outpatient, never needed the pain meds they gave me. Some people do have trouble with gassy, greasy, or spicy foods. I don't have any issues unless I eat a lot of any one thing. I don't even think about it anymore.

I have had several surgeries including laparoscopies in the past 4 years. I even had my appendix out. So I'm ok with the surgery part. I think :/ I have a lot of scar tissue in my abdomen tho so I'm just a little scared of the pain after and then the whole food issues lol.

Any typical day surgery for someone else usually is about a two to three overnight stay for me. Because of certain issues I have had after anesthesia.

Sometimes when people have things like this happen they come here to us in a panic, almost hysteria and rightfully so,it's usually due to a scary situation such as yours. Those of us "old timers " who've seen it before or even lived it understand it and if we have any hope of helping we have to first get your attention.

I've personally found that using the plain unadulterated truth of the matter usually works. Its sort of like a bucket of cold water to the face then I've got your undivided attention and they will hear what I'm saying and remember.

Sometimes and usually immediately following that truth anger and defense mode kicks in but rarely lasts when you take what we're offering in the true context in which it was meant. Anger is a awesome motivator and gets things done in this sometimes slow moving medical train we're all on.

If making someone mad for a moment helps prevent the same tragedy from repeating itself or helps someone find a solution to otherwise hopeless situation then I suppose I just am going to always choose to be the bad guy.

Your moving right along and this will be over before you know it. If you find a long the way you can actually do OK with less meds or you can't and any knowledge is power and you will at least know where you stand.
