first day with Butrans

What should I expect? Some withdrawal from Conzip? while it leaves my system and the Butrans works its way in?

What dose to you have.I took them for 4 months and never got raised above 5's.Without any increase I built up a tolerance and the rest is history.
I don't won't to a influence you in any ways,so I'll wait to see how it works for you.

Butrans is like all the other opiates in the sense that it works for some and not at all for others.

A very wise and recently gained bit of wisdom Susan, don't look for trouble! If you go into this zeroing in on withdrawal symptoms? You can bet you'll convince yourself they're there.

Try staying busy, occupying your mind in a task will help. I wore Utube and my phone out. Read or do the cross word puzzle, whatever it takes but stay away from the "fear " of w/d.

Be fair to the Med and give it a chance. You never know? It could turn out to be your greatest discovery.

I have been excessively tired today, sitting with my kids and next thing i know an hour has gone by and i was sleeping. this has happened 3 times today and it is only 3:30pm. I have a slight headache and had to take some vicodin to help with some pain. I am not wanting more withdrawal just wanted to know if this is what I should expect for the next 2 days, probably best to stay close to home this weekend!

Hi Susan and welcome to the chronic pain forum. I just went and looked up Butrans and yes tiredness is a potential side effect listed. However, it did not state how long this could last. With most meds the side effects can last just a few short days or even weeks. Hopefully this will be something short lived and will not last long. By the way I use a site called www.Drugs.com to look up meds. It is a pretty neat site gives you the list of meds that may counter act with your meds, pretty informative site.

Susan my sons a recovering IV drug user and treated with Subutex which also contains the main Med as Butrans. After reading your description of yourself I recall him early out of rehab doing the same thing!

I would be talking to him and all the sudden he was sound asleep. Then other times he wouldn't remember a thing about eating dinner, a friend stopping by.

It worried me at first since I didn't know if it was permanent or a side effect. Then it's like one day he just got a big dose of energy and woke up! Normal.

I think they actually take alot more mgs for addiction then pain in the beginning. He now is at a much lower dose then back then so no issues anymore.

Hi Susan... I tried Butrans and I had extreme solmness (falling fast asleep out of nowhere) and it was really bad. I fell asleep at a red light and my son had to wake me up. My case was pretty bad but I wanted to warn you since you mentioned the sleeping.

Also when we took the patch off I had a bad rash that had little blisters on my skin and we found out I was allergic to Butrans and had to be put on steroids. But I have a friend that the Butrans patch was heaven sent for her! It took a few weeks for the drowsiness to go away and she doesn't even need breakthrough meds anymore. She calls it her lifesaver!

I also posted a MSG on your 'Off Topic' thread to try to answer your question. You can PM me anytime, btw, and I am happy to give you my email address if you want to talk 'faster'. :)

So starting out, I would need to know what you are currently on, the dosage of the bupenephrine, and both script and OTC meds (pain and any anxiety/depression and newer therapies like nitro and pitocin) as well as what narc and OTC meds have not worked and why. Without that info it's kind of hard to tell you what to expect short and long term. Also, you say first day but does that mean you just slapped it on or does that mean its the first day the full amount is in your system? It takes a full 36 hours to fully 'kick in'.

As for forced withdrawal, it does not have nalaxone (sp?) so it doesn't force you into a withdrawal. The only thing it does do, which is annoying, is that it takes over your opiate receptors - like hogs them - so it can make other stronger narcotic break through meds not as effective. It's basically fighting for room at the water fountain so to speak. But you're safe on the precipitated WDs.
