Help with pain pump

New pain pump surgery. In severe pain. Can anyone tell me how long till I will feel relief ? It was filled 3 days ago with. Prialt. Going off oxycodone at the same time. Any information would be great!

Hi BabyBlue and welcome to HW. I gave your post a heading since you need immediate help with a particular subject.

I don't however have a pump but we have members who do and I wanted them to see your post for sure. I don't know how much pain you should be in but it doesn't sound like your getting any relief, is your pain more now then before pump placement? Is it different? 3 days post op is certainly not alot of time. How much oxy are you on and what was the reason, type of pain your having had the pump for?

Not trying to play 20 questions and know when your hurting you don't feel like typing but hoping with as much information you give someone can better help faster.

Again sorry your pain has brought you to us tonight but wanted to welcome you to an awesome forum.

How can they take you off meds because of a pain pump? I thought you use both together to manage pain?

Hi Vickie. Thank you for ur help. I didn't write much last night. Typin g from cell phone. Ok so I'm almost 2 weeks post op I had a dry pump until this afternoon will make the 4 day sense my pump way filled. I do have one very new pain sense surgery. Right under my spinal cord stimmulator. Its dirrectly under it an nerve shocking pain shooting down my leg and up my back. The pain pump was placed for degeneration of lumbosacral invertebral disc, lumbar radicupathy, narrowing of the spinal canal ,osteoarthritis, bursitis both hips, I have fibromyalgia,

Sense the surgery I have gone off Fentanly already and I've gone from 15mg oxycodone. 3 times a day to 10mg twice. My goal is no pain meds if poss. I can hardly walk at all right now. Pain is so severe. I read so much about how much the pump helped. Right now I feel this is a very bad dream......

I asked to be taken off all narcotics due to the fact they have greatly affected me over the years. Ill be 40 next month and I've been medicated sense my 20's I just desperatly want to think clearly for once. I swear I'm so sick and tired of being tired. I thought if I got the pump I wouldn't have to feel like this. I know its early but I'm still stuck in bed. Maybe I expected to much.

I suppose I should be honest with the rest or I won't get anywhere here. I also have a son with mental health issues who steals my medications. So I thought if I go off my meds he just can't steal them from me. Its all very stressful and I'm sure it has to do with why my pain is so high. My fibro shoots up when stressed . But both reasons r why I'm going off my meds. If I take a break from the narcotics for some months they can changs the medication in my pump to where I will have a button to press so I can give myself a dose of meds. I want no medication in my home.

That makes sense.

I'm guessing Morophine is in the pump. My brother in law has had 4 back surgeries and he has the morophine pump but still is taking meds. He swears by it. Says it doesn't make him loopy just takes care of the pain without him pill popping every hour.

Hello BabyBlue & welcome to the chronic pain forum. Have you done any reading about Prialt? If not I urge you to. Everyone that I know that had tried Prialt had it taken out immediately. I would never agree to having it in my pump, I would have the pump removed before allowing that to be used.

When narcotics are used in these pumps it is in a concentrated form which is much, much stronger than pill form. I have 4 meds in my pump and I am just as lucid as always. I drive my own car and am capable of doing anything that requires concentration.

I do hope you will rethink Prialt, especially when the dr starts ramping up the dose....Susie
