I know I have started a couple threads lately so I hope this is ok but I had gone a couple weeks before without one.

Anyway do you guys ever feel so high maintenance? I miss the old days where when I got sleepy I could just lay down and go to sleep. Now there are med rituals and suppositories. There are mouth guards for TMJ. There is my probiotic that I usually keep putting off and have to take right before bed. Oh and you have to make sure you go pee so you do not get woken up any extra times in case you are actually getting sleep. You have to lay out your clothes for the next day because getting ready for work is such an ordeal those few precious saved steps and minutes could make or break you. I know I am forgetting steps because I am thinking of more as I sit here.

All that along with the normal people stuff like brushing your teeth and setting the alarm. Going to bed is exhausting. My husband wonders why occasionaly I would rather just lay here and sleep if I fall asleep watching a movie instead of going on to bed. It is because by the time I have done all that I am wide awake. Do any of you sympathize? I used to get wake up and be out the door in five minutes. I feel like I am not me anymore.

LOL Sherrie! Its called getting older! Every step takes longer then it did at 20! By the time you get to 50 bedtime starts after dinner if you expect to be in bed by 11.

I sleep whenever, wherever and that way my bedtime rituals may take place in the middle of the afternoon. After retirement or disability about all I've got is plenty of time.

My bedtime ritual is annoying. My wife just brushes her teeth and gets in bed after a shower. I have OCD so it really takes me time to get into bed and I as I get older even longer.

I hear what you are saying. I have horrible sleep habits. My bewitching hour starts around 3:30am. If I am lucky I will sleep till 7:30. That is not a lot of sleep for someone that is fairly active & that is why I am tired all of the time. If I nod off my husband has learned to leave me where I lay, lol. He knows sleep is something that I struggle with.

High maintenance, of course we are, we are CP patients, nothing is ever all that simple for us. Don't let the small things bug you, you have bigger fish to fry, lol.

Oh heck yes, of course!

Hubby gets right up when the alarm goes off, starts the shower, gets his clothes ready, showers, changes and is out the door in 40 minutes! I can't even wake UP in 40 minutes. It takes me a few hours to get there.

I agree with Vickie on everything she said. Welcome to the club my dear. As CP'ers, this is just a new way of life for us to adapt to. You are so far from alone!

Same thing, too, about sleep being precious. My family has also learned, if I do crash in front of the TV to leave me be. If I wake up to get into bed, I'm wide awake and can't sleep. I take what I can get.

I have a teenager... and he jumps out of bed, no pain... throws on clean clothes (cause they are magically cleaned by mom), a quick brush of the teeth and he's ready to go. I have to get up an hour early to take an anti-inlamatory and a half of my breakthrough med to even get up and moving because my mornings are filled with so much pain. Then I'm helping my little one get ready and I'll walk in the room and he's sitting watching tv. I finally broke down crying one day and now he'll ask me "Do you need help with anything" before he relaxes cause it was so much to get both of us ready but I usually tell him no. It had to be a bad day for me to ask him to help because I feel guilty that I'm not the mom I used to be anymore. :(

I'm in the same routine, and it took a lonnnnng time for my family to understand. I "get up" (sort of) and take my meds (not all of them, but the ones related to pain), and while I go back to bed, I rarely fall asleep, but I wait there until the meds kick in and I can get moving.

Then and only then, do I drag my sorry behind out of the bed and start my day, which still runs on analog time in a digital world. But that's my process too.
