I had both my hips replaced two years ago. The right hip surgery was just fine. The left hip replaement in June 2011, left me with numbness in my left foot upon waking in my room. My surgeon told me that many nerves get stretched and pulled during this kind or surgery that in time it should go away totally.
The surgeon ordered many tests to see if I had some underlying condition they were not aware of before surgery that could have caused this condition. All test came back perfectly normal.
I went to Physical Therapy and had water therapy. I was told by the therapist that this is a common condition after hip surgery and 99% of patients who have this it could take up to 2 years to go away and that it will get worse before it gets better. It will actually travel all the way up the leg. Well, it is worse and it has traveled all the way up the leg but it is over two years. What does this mean? This is it? I will have this for he rest of my life? I need to walk with a walker as I never know what part of my foot will be affected at any given moment as it moves around constantly.
Most of the time my foot and ankle feel like they are in a vice and be made tighter and tighter to the point of horrible pain. Nothing help the pain.
I saw a Neurologist and had an EMG that tests the nerves. All she could tell me is some nerves are damaged and some are trying to rejuvinate. She had not seen so many nerves involved before.
Has anyone had anything like what I have and am experiencing. Can you please give me advice and how you are managing now?
Thanking you in advance for your help!
