Yep, quite a few sites list all the OTC/Rx that can possible give false positives.

The best bet is to research what they are...then tell your doc IF you are taking them.

I, too, am unsure about rights...I'm sure that what rights there are depend on the state(and even if you DO have rights, I'm sure you'd have to take it to court, but the damage may already be done long before that.)

All I can say is that I would never want to be tested using the "in-house" dip stick type tests as those are very unreliable and can have false positives/negatives.

With the gas chromatography and mass spectrometry tests, these are 99.9% accurate and used for criminal forensics, security, food/beverage analysis, etc.

Thankfully my PM sends out for this type of testing as it was just a few years ago they started requiring them once a year for our state. It's a pretty expensive test and as I've mentioned before, I am blessed that my PM writes the entire cost off for me as I don't have insurance as he felt that a requirement that wasn't coming from him shouldn't negatively effect his patients.

I had a false positive for the substance that shall not be mentioned for a job about ten years ago. I made it very clear that I've never tried it ever and they told me I had to come in within twelve hours to retest. I was there within one. They retested right there and of course, my specimen was fine. So I definitely know that false positives can happen. I was dumfounded!

Diane its FL that initiated the test for welfare recipient and I too was a welfare single mom while battling SS. I would have to go off the welfare rolls today if I was still on them. The sheer fact that at any given time I would've had to come up with $200 was insane! With 5 kids I drew maximum amount of $435 in Ky at that time, that's it every dime allowed no matter how many kids you had between 4 and over! The huge misconceptions of the general population believes the more kids you have the more money you get. That's so not true.

If you draw with one child the amount was $285, so the Moms trying to go to school, better the lives of their self and children are supposed to pay $200 of their check and live on $85? Pending results and knowing how slow the wheels of these offices turn? What do they live without waiting? Food, rent, their transportation to school?

These amounts are maximum for those with no other income, you get money from elsewhere you dont get the whole amount.

The states that did a trial found that less then 4% tested positive. Is that number so high? Really? Isn't it rational to think that possibly like myself that some of those were waiting on disability? Taking meds that Medicaid wont pay for and the same office that determines that is going to decide if its legitimate use or illegal and take the only means of caring for my children? Remember, its the Oxy use here that Florida abhors so if that's the Med you test positive for your going to be severely scrutinized.

I realize potential employees have to be subjected to drug testing but they will not be as tolerant as employment rights.

Disabled people in many states are required to do community service for Food stamps and welfare yet SSDI and your Drs say your not able to work? How long before SS says "hey " your managing 40 hrs a week serving meals at the shelter you can get a job waiting tables?

People dont think before they vote on these types of amendments the fallback and who really suffers? The children?

Trudy its pretty much the same here I think, at the time I was still battling SS for my disability, waiting ALJ hearing actually and because I wasn't actually disabled yet according to them because I was awaiting judgment I had to do community service and since I was drawing welfare and had 5 kids I got a larger sum of FS then 1 person and my community hours were crazy.
