Ever had your Rx messed up? Mini-rant

Had my medcheck today. Basically just a visit to get my medications refilled. Nothing new...schedule new injection later this month.

Went to go back my Rx and my Lortab Rx was filled in at 45 instead of 90...while Lyrica was filled at what it normally is set at, 90. Had a mini panic in my head: "Are they lowering my dose since I told them the lyrica was helping...a bit?"

It was set for 15 day supply...which coincides with my next injection, but they don't normally refil my Rx on the same day as an injection...because I don't see my PA and hardly see the Dr. So, maybe...that was it?

I have this great fear of being judged/seen as a drug user.

I called them up, and asked them nicely what is up-- found out there was just a mess up and MAYBE it had to do with the injection date. She said she could send in a Rx for the rest, I told them that wasn't neccesary and asked if I could just call in a refill in 10-15 days. She said she'll make a note for the Drs. So somewhat painless...but hate the drama behind the Rxs.

What is weird is I have a PA(who i talk to on medchecks) then a Dr. who does the injections/over sees everything...then another Dr(who I have NEVER met) who actually writes/sends in the Narcotic Rxs to the pharmacy.

I HATE having to worry about these darn pills/Rxs! Causes so much inner turmoil/anxiety... :(

And to top it off, I talked to my mother today and the first question she asked when I said I was at the doctor? "They give you more Vicodin?"

Sounds like you did everything correctly with calling them immediately.

One thing I would suggest to you as well as anyone else who may run into something like this is to ask for the person you talked to today to confirm everything in an email. There have been times that someone "forgets" to put something in your chart and then you end up calling in later and no one has a clue what was going on.

So, I'm sure they would be happy to send you a quick email saying that there was just a mistake and you can call in x date for the rest of the prescription.

I do this kind of thing for every single type of business that I do, not just my medical stuff and it pays off in the long run:)

I tend to agree with Vickie on this one. If it were me, I would want the rest of that script to fill, while you are able to get it without any issue or drama associated with it. Your call of course.

I'm not sure I'd be to worried about what they think about you changing your mind, and having them go ahead and fill it.

You sure don't want to get caught in a situation where you don't have medication and it's a weekend or holiday or whatever, and can't get them filled until several days later. There's nothing worse than to run out of medication and then not be able to get them for several days.

I'm sorry that they mixed things up, like my hubby would say, "it's hard to find good help these days". Someone wasn't paying attention to what they were doing. I also agree and email to the Doctors office is a idea for a CYA file. At least you'll be able to prove that you contacted them and what was agreed to.

Hey Josh got to tell on myself here. When I read your subject line I was on my phone so it's small font to begin with, I also didn't have my glasses on and I thought it said Mini Mart! I even asked my son if he'd ever heard of a mini mart with a pharmacy!! Lol

When I put my glasses back on and saw it said rant I was laughing and had to tell my son I read it wrong, he made a note on the calendar to call for an eye appointment for "Mom ".

I actually voted incorrectly! I have had a few minor mix-ups, but they have been so easily and quickly remedied by my docs office that they slipped my mind when answering the poll.

Back in June, my doctors appointment was mistakenly made the late afternoon of day after I was scheduled to get my Oxycontin filled. So technically, I should have been 5 pills short and I should have run out early. Due to missing a few very early morning doses from oversleeping, thankfully I had the extra I needed. My scripts are for 30 days and fill exactly every 30 days with no leeway in between, I believe this is the norm for everyone. I pointed the date discrepancy out to my doctor and she corrected the dates on my next visit.

Also, I use a small Mom & Pop type pharmacy in our little hick town that is only about 6 blocks away from my home. Other than that, the nearest pharmacy is about 20 miles away. They are closed every Sunday and every holiday, usually even the holidays that aren't official for banks and such to close. I know that most people use a pharmacy that is open 7 days a week. I am on several different medications and that would mean a lot more in gas money and a big inconvenience to me and my family if I had to switch pharmacies. Occasionally, my schedule 2 meds need to be filled on Sunday and the doctors office is aware that my pharmacy is closed, but they have not found a way to program their computer system to not fill my meds on Sundays. I do not always catch this while I am still at their office to have the date corrected, so I have had to call their office and the doc just calls the pharmacy and releases the RX for a Saturday fill. It is really nice that they can/will do this over the telephone and I do not have to have a whole new script printed out and sent through the mail. I don't know if a larger pharmacy or a chain will allow the change of dates on sched 2 scripts to be authorized over the phone.

As of January 1st, 2013 the docs office instituted a new policy of no scripts will be sent through the mail. There are no exceptions to this policy. If my pharmacy wouldn't allow it to be done over the phone, I would have to drive 1 1/2 hours to get to their office to pick up the correctly dated script. Definitely a big inconvenience!
