Change in meds-end up in hospital

My regular doc stop Cymbalta without tapering down. I think he just forgot because we talked about so many things during this visit. He changed me to Remeron. After 3 nights of this change my head was so dizzy I barely could stand. I was very agitated and felt horrible. But was sleeping like a log at night. That is not normal for me. On day 5 my heart was about to jump out of my chest, head spinning, could barely walk. I checked heart rate and it was staying around 130. I called dr and he felt like from stopping Cymbalta. Stopped Remeron on day 5 as I felt it was way to strong for me. Day 6 in er with racing heart.

During this visit they found I had low potassium (possibly from the change in meds), a UTI(had no idea I had) and the EKG showed a prolong Q T. Had to stay overnight because they needed to monitor my heart. EKG next day showed prolong Q T . I have since had another EKG and waiting on results. We have a history of heart disease in family so could be serious. Probably just from the meds though.

I have not posted in a while about back problems but still having them. They ask me "wasn't your back hurting with the uti?" uuhhmm My back hurts everyday so I would not know any different. lol

I stopped having injections as I would get terrible headaches and they did not relieve the back pain. I am now starting with pain down the other leg. GREAT! I have not been back to PM doc though. Not sure if and when I will go.

I was wondering if anyone had symptoms like I had coming off Cymbalta or getting on Remeron? I know everyone is different but just wondering.

I am glad you mentioned the night terrors. My husband shook me one night. He said I was screaming out in my sleep. I know I was dreaming every night something awful. I had the paranoia as well. I wanted him in the room as I thought it was really happening. I will not be taking remeron ever again.

I need to go flush the bottle. He said it would help with my sleeping. It would make be like I was in a coma. I hated the feeling. It was much deeper sleep then Ambien. I am trying to make it without Ambien or anything for anxiety. We want my system to adjust and make sure it was the med change that caused the low potassuim and the abnormal heart rhythm. DR. told me vet will give remeron to dogs to help sleep. Poor things. I hope they are not dreaming. lol

I dream someone was in my house to murder me. I wanted hubby right there with me. Strange what meds can do.

Sorry you had such a terrible reaction to the medication. I've never taken it but it sounds like nothing that I would want to mess with. I hope you are feeling much better now.

Just wanted to let you know that I have a prolonged QT interval and have had once since 6/2011. I know mine is caused by my pain medication as well some of the other medications I take. My doctors for now just do an EKG once a month to make sure I'm doing fine.d

Was just at the Dr's for a clearance for surgery this week. My EKG did show the extended QT interval. I asked if it would stop my surgery and he said no, that I was on the lower end of the scale. Just wanted to pass that information on to you. If your Dr doesn't seems to be watching it closely, I'd ask for a referral to see a cardiologist.

Tracy are you on narcotics for pain now or have you used them for long periods? There are several they've just discovered carry the potential to cause the prolonged QT and without previous warning signs.

They've actually added a FDA black box warning to a couple of them and Darvon /Darvocet has been completely removed from the market.
