I know this isn't about pain but I am sure some you guys have dealt with this so I humbly ask for support. Lately on the days I go to work or sit in a chair for any extended period on time my feet swell as big as grapefruits. Normally I sit on the bed most of the time so my legs are elevated.

I went to my PC and they did tests and couldn't find anything. They told me to take an extra 12.5 mg of HCTZ when it happens and drink extra water and eat a banana or tomato. So that would be 25 mg total for the day. That still did not help so I have to go to a heart doctor.

I am only 31. I am obese but I am really scared. They have tested my cholesterol and it was fine and they test the blood flow in my legs and it was fine. The whole prospect of this is scary. There is no way I could do a stress test. My balance sucks. My legs hurt. I know I just have to do what they say to make sure that I do not have a heart attack but I just do not know what to expect. Will I do tests at my first appt or will they schedule them? There are so many unknowns and I hate not having control. Thanks for listening to me ramble.

Sorry I cannot help you here, and I have even had a massive heart attack back in 2002! shakehead

However!…we do have an excellent Heart forum, and you might want to post your question over there. Awesome members there, and I'm sure someone will offer some thoughts on your fears.

Thanks I posted over there. I didn't even think to look for a heart board since I didn't have a diagnosis. I hope it is not considered spamming because I posted the same thing in both places.

Hi Sherrie am sorry your having problems. Many times narcotics alone have a tendency to cause fluid retention and humidity makes it worse.

As far as posting it in the Heart forum that's a great idea! We dont usually consider it a violation of anything posting twice, meant more for multiple posting in multiple forums so your good!

Hoping you get it figured out as several years back I was having problems with edema and added a low dose diuretic to take when needed, problem solved!

Hi Sherrie, and also sorry you're having problems.

Hopefully posting in the Heart Forum will give you some good feedback, but just from my own experiences - when I made my first appointment with my cardiologist I was told to allow extra time for an ECG and echo. I'd already had several ECG's done...but the clinic I saw wanted one done by their own people, on their own equipment. It wasn't possible for me to undergo a stress test because I have CRPS in both my legs and arms... but I know it's possible for it to be done with a hand pedal exerciser for people who can't stand, and there are also drugs that are used to chemically stress the heart if this is needed.

In the meantime, be kind to yourself and try not to stress :)

I had some chest pains a few years back and was sent to a cardiologists. He did a stress test that day. I was glad to find out everything was fine that day. Of course he did say to be 100 percent sure he would have to do a heart cathe which he did not feel I needed. He said I had costochondritis. I know that is not spelled correctly. I had never heard of it. But it did go away.

No, they usually do not do any testing the first visit unless its something like an EKG. I see a cardiologist on a regular basis have done lots & lots of test over the years. The test to me are no big deal except for the chemical induces stress test. I do not like it because they have the control not me, lol.. I have been under the care of a cardiologist since I was 28 yrs old. I come from the bad gene pool.

I think you are getting too worked up which is only going to increase your actual pain. Who knows the cardiologist may only need to see you one time only. In other words try not to imagine the worse case scenario that will do nothing but add to your stress level. There are other diurectics out there to try you on.
