Now around 5 weeks back exactly, I just got out of bed and started playing football with friends in the backyard. I felt a strain or hit that time while playing and knew something had happened right away. But I neglected it as regular strain for a couple of days. The the 3rd-4th day after this happened, I got up with a very stiff neck and pain. Used hot water bag that day, it didn't go away or reduce. Then it started paining in my forearms and the pain was more when I sat down or extended my neck backwards
Next day went to the doc, she said it was muscle related and hence gave me some tablets for 4 days and physiotherapy for 10 days and said its nothing will go away in a week or 2.
I persisted on physiotherapy for 4-5 days but seeing no effect, stopped it to give it rest instead. It worked and my pain has been reducing since i met the doc. From 100 % to 20-25 %.
However, I stopped physiotherapy then and a 10 days back my pain was slowiy going away but not completely. One day it was as low as 5% but again next day came back to around 20%. So went to another senior doctor who recommended an MRI.
The MRI showed a C5- C6 buldging disc and nerve compression. The doctor saw the MRI and reports and prescribed me a couple of tablets including steroids for 5 days plus 10 days on physiotherapy. Now with the tablets for 5 days my pain had almost gone and sometimes 0 %. However, I didn't start with physiotherapy as I had noticed before that physiotherapy makes it pain a bit later.
Yesterday, I went to another doctor just to get an opinion,so he made me stretch a bit and gave traction. Now the thing is since yesterday the pain is back from 5 % which it was since I took the steroid tablets to 25-30 % again. The doctor said today that the disc bulge is on track of improvement as the pain has at least reduced all this while even though a little was present and until the muscle become strong, it wont completely go away.
Sorry for giving you the background story but had to share as I am insanely frustrated and I am only 24. I don't want to live with this for the rest of my life. Can't even think of imagining that. Worst part is just a month back before this injury, I had finally decided to build a proper body as I have always been very average physique wise.
Now the doctors have said that I will be fully cured. However, one of them said 4-6 weeks from injury while the other said 8-12 weeks. I am really worried at this time and just want to know from someone who had this before and has been able to lead a normal life later.
Oh and I have been driving around a bit. Say couple of hours a day but didn't for the first 2 weeks.
Should I still use cold/hot bags alternatively?
Can I be normal and do whatever I wanted to? Can I still gym and play sports? Also this a very crucial stage of my career as well as life, Don't want to cry away and waste it in pain. As I am only 25, I am hoping my body manages to recover from it totally.
Please someone give me some advice and make me calm.
Thank You!
