Just Scheduled my psych exam in order to go thru with the SCS trial.. kinda nervous but im glad I finally found a pm doctor who actually cares about his patients and how they feel and not just toss narcotics at me and leave the room.

I wanted the pump instead but he insisted I try the scs first, now I have to decide between Medtronic's 2 lead one that u can get mris with, or the Boston Scientific's 4 lead one and have more areas covered, but have to get CTs from now on no mri's... I'm kinda scared as I am only 23 and this seems like major surgery.. I might wait until after the holidays and my birthday. Any idea how long the recovery time is for an SCS?

…the only thing I know about recovery time is that you have to be very careful, as it takes a while for the leads to scar in. Once they scar in, the chance of them slipping out of place is less.

Also, my understanding is that if the device is considered a failure and or quits working, they generally leave them in. Ask about this and make sure you understand.

Good luck Luie hope all goes well. From what others have written about here at the forum qthe post op recovery was a lot more detailed than they thought, The surgery is fairly extensive so being out of commission a good 6 weeks is not unrealistic.

You can look in the search feature here at the forum, type in SCS units & you should find some valuable info.....Susie

I recently did the eval...plan to do surgery by end of this year.

The eval was stressful and exhausting for me...but not as bad as I first feared. Lol

I just went to my gp today and told him what the other doctor said, hes sending me to a neurosurgeon for a second opinion because the orthopedic I went to said he wouldn't do surgery because I have to many messed up disks in different levels and would require a few surgeries.. So im going to a neuro to see if he would do it. If not then I will go thru with the trial or perhaps a pump...

im so sick of the god darn insurance company, I really hope they get whats coming, ***** comp carriers!!! ofc today like the last few months I had to pay 600$ out of pocket for the fentanyl and oxy, im owed over 2 grand for meds I layed the money out for.. I know ill get it back when their forced to.. but I mean crap it relly edit me off, every month when I go to the pharmacy after sitting in drs for hrs already in a lot of pain.. to have to sit in the pharmacy and being stressed trying to get som1 on the phone.. ugh

( I don't like the auto sensorship, people in pain should be able to express themselves lol except for the f bomb that I understand but some of the others...)

Had my 2 min phone psych exam for the scs, I said I wanted to try both and he said if the scs dosnt work I can try the pump. I want the pump.. I rather have the pump than a scs but this dr only does scs's .. I have a 2nd opinionwith a NS on the 5th to see about regular surgery or the scs/pump route..
