At 5 this morning I was marking spam for the Super Mods and I opened one with a subject line in a foreign language, as I hit the lock thread after editing and removing links my IPhone went to black screen and crashed.

It wouldn't come up no matter what I tried and I took it in this morning. I wont get into the technical but I lost all Apps and everything not backed up on my SD card. The phone had to be reset to factory default.

Whatever bug that the spam contained caused a fatal error in the browser.

I've noticed that we have some members who reply to spam? DONT! I can't say that forcefully enough. Dont open it, post on it, and dont click any part that could be a link.

They're getting smarter and inserting hyperlinks inside other words, even in the subject lines and you could cause some massive damage to your computer, compromise your privacy, bank account, any number of things.

Look at the subject, do you know the user? Are there other replies? There's some indication its spam if its got anything to do with movies, tv programs, online anything, foreign war, different languages, these are some but not all. If we mark it spam and its not locked please dont reply or open it. The SM and Peter work quickly to get them removed when the mods alert them but occasionally one gets by every one. If you find one you can email me or Susie, SE, Tina any mod.

Even if im not on here my phone alerts me anytime an email comes in.

Yes, spam shows up on the forums a lot, particularly in the early morning hours (of EST). Some diligent moderators, including your own neverthesame/Vickie are up and hunting them down daily!!!

And may we ask that you not respond to these spam posts, please? It makes it much harder for us to find them so we can delete and get rid of the offending post and poster. Thanks!

thank you for the info. though i'm not really sure way a spam is. all my wife told me was you'll know it when you click on it. i consider myself to be very computer literate, i mean i know the basics but that is about it. hope it doesn't get me...lol

hi vickie, thank you for addressing that for me. like i was saying i can turn em on and login to a site. my wife and kids are the computer brains around here...it's amazing what they know and can do with em.(computers)..
