Burning mouth syndrome/hairy tongue

Hello.  Looking for some insight.  Been struggling with extreme dry mouth, burning tip of tongue, white tongue and white patches inside of mouth.  I have been to my dentist, primary care physician, and an ear nose and throat dr.  I was given 'magic mouthwash'.  How long does it take for this stuff to work?  I have been dealing with this for 6 weeks.  I starting take Vitamin B complex to see if that helps.  Can anyone out there give other advice?  So sick of chwing gum all day long and using lip balm!  Thank you.  Lizzyper

I know this was talked about on the UC board before. YOu might want to try searching at the top of the page under where it says Join healingwell. You can find old topics. I personally know nothing on the subject but I think it is yeast. Is that correct? If it is I would think eating yogurt would help you heal because of the probiotics. So far as dry mouth there are products called bioten that could help on the toothbrush isle. I think they have a spray and a mouth wash. But you should probably check with the dentist and make sure it won't wash away the medicine. Welcome to healingwell and sorry I don't know more.

Hi lizzyper and Welcome to Healing well chronic pain forum. You mentioned that you have white patches in your mouth along with your burning tongue. Did any of your doctors do a culture of your mouth, or mentioned anything about oral Thrush? You can Google "thrush" and the Mayo Clinic site listed has allot of good information about it, and its causes and treatments, along with allot of the other sites that are listed. Just something you might want to check out. If it is thrush it can easily be treated with oral antifungal medications.

Hey Lizzy, did you find anything helpful in the old posts? I actually think I may be coming down with something on my tongue. I keep getting this awful taste in my mouth. I haven't been able to see anything on it yet but there are a bunch of bumps on the back of my tongue that I don't remember being there. Does your mouth taste bad?

I think I have heard that certain types of gum can actually make your mouth more dry because of the certain kind of sweetener in them. I think that peppermints were supposed to be really good. I have severe dry mouth not only from some of my medical conditions but also from medications I take so I understand. I have to carry water with me everywhere I go.
