I assume you talked to someone at your Medicaid Health Care Plan. Medicaid is more restrictive on what they pay for and the requirements than other government insurance.

When I was,working I had a client that had a manual wheelchair Medicaid paid for. He had limitations on using his arms and hands and could not push himself in the manual wheelchair any longer. His doctor wrote a rx for a motorized wheelchair, which Medicaid denied. The client appealed the decision and was denied again. I called the man that spoke for Medicaid at the fair hearing. He told me if my client was trying to work that Medicaid would pay for the motorized wheelchair. I told him there were no jobs I was aware of the man could do. He suggested the man do something from home over the phone or at least appear to. He said if the man got a license from the city for his business that Medicaid would accept that. The client did what the man suggested and Medicaid paid for his motorized wheelchair.

I was,in a GoodWill store about a year ago. There were a lot of regular walkers. For those that read this in the future and have to buy their walker. Try going to a GoodWill store in your area and talk to the manager. Explain your situation and ask if they would please call you if/when they receive the type of walker you need

Thanks for your reply. Your tip about looking for a used walker at Good Will and other thrift stores is a good one. Unfortunately, I need a non-typical sized model. Besides needing it to be wide-seated, I also need it to have a shorter seat-to-floor height, as I am both short and fat. Almost all of the wide-seated models are for either average or taller sized people. There are very few models made for people who are both short and fat, so I had to buy a brand new one. Because there is less of a demand for them, they also cost more, but Walmart charges a lot less for the model I got than the company that actually makes them charges, so I got it thru Walmart. It's still a lot more money than the regular models, but it's very sturdy, and I hope to get a lot of use out of it.

For other short and wide folk who may be looking for a short, but wide rolling walker, try the Nova Mini Mac model. It comes in a choice of burgundy or dark blue. The pix of the burgundy one always look more like bright red, but it actually is a nice dark burgundy red when you take it out of the box. It has a floor-to-seat height of 19.5 inches, and the seating distance between the handles is 20.75 inches. The handle grip height adjusts from 29.25 inches to 33.75 inches. It weighs 18 pounds, and has a weight limit of 400 pounds. Just keep in mind that it is not a wheel-chair or a transport chair, so it's not meant for scooting around in. It's designed to help people walk, and to provide a temporary seat, as needed, but is not designed for riding. The company charges $299.95 before taxes. I paid $50 less thru Walmart. I could have shaved another $25 off had I gotten the burgundy one at Amazon.com, but had I needed to return it, it would have been difficult to do thru Amazon, and would have cost a return shipping fee. With Walmart, most of the time you can just return things to the store, so I picked Walmart, just in case I should want to return it.
