I wear full dentures, upper and lower.
In the beginning, OMG, I thought I was never going to stop gagging! And I spoke like I had marbles in my mouth. Also, if they don't fit well, you can whistle when you say "Ssssss's"!
But trust me, you get over it. I'm so, so glad I got them! My health improved drastically getting my teeth out, and the thing to remember is for the first few years, you're going to have bone loss, and the dentures will frequently need relining to adjust....
...at some point, you'll need rebasing (down the road).
As long as you know this up front (I didn't, so I got wiggy), but now that I understand, honestly, I couldn't be happier!
Your dentist can shorten the upper plate so it doesn't extend so far back.
Are these your "permanent" dentures or your "immediate" ones?
Some people carry on fine with the same pair for ages....so being aware of the differences is so comforting.
My dentist recommended I practice reading out loud, anything, like newspapers, magazines, just to learn how to use the appliances. Your muscles in your mouth and tongue need to retrain.
Big hint: Slow down!! Must emphasize. Unlike natural teeth that aren't going anywhere, we need to take smaller bites, speak a little slower, enunciate a little clearer....
I wish I had someone to teach me these things along the way,....so, very happy to help you, and glad to answer any questions.
