A week on Cymbalta -- HUMP DAY ;)

So, this is day seven of being on Cymbalta for me.

For the first few days I had some slightly nausea with some major tiredness/fatigue. Thankfully, both seem to have passed.

I'm not sure I'm feeling the effects yet, though I've read it can take a month or more to feel the full effects.

I want to say pain has been slightly less...but can tell for sure.

My mood seems better...at least the frustration/anger part. Not too sure on that either.

If there is something there besides placebo, I hope it continues to grow :)


Really worried about eventual W/D from Cymbalta...read some nasty things about it online.

Though, maybe I'll never need to come off it. Kinda sad to think in a way I may have to take several pills a day for the rest of my life, but could be worse as they always say.

Hope everyone's week is going by greatly.

Josh, yes it can take up to a month to get the full benefit of the Cymbalta, most of the meds along that line take that long, so try to be patient although its hard at times. To avoid any problems when its time to go off the Cymbalta the dr should wean you off so that there are no problems.

I was on it for a year I believe.The 1st PM I ever went to.He was pushing it on all his patients.It didn't agree with me.

I didn't have good drug Insurance then and when they didn't have samples it was pretty expensive.

This was 10+ years ago.

I was on an anti-depressant before then and am still.I take Celexa.

At that time I didn't know why they were saying it helped with pain.

That was one of the meds I was tried with this past year. I had constant nausea issues with it that never improved, and for me, it did zip on the pain department. Though it has a known rap for w/d issues for many people, I came off if it fine without issues. You know the routine, diff meds work differently with diff people.

Hope it helps you, and that you ultimately adjust fine to it. Some people swear by this med, and talk of huge improvements over time

Thanks everyone for your great comments.

Hopefully this drug is supposed to go Generic sometime next year...will bring down my med costs...as I take lyrica and it is pretty spendy too :/

It's my understanding that Cymbalta works by raising serotonin. If price is an issue, there are a lot of other meds that do that and are available in generic form. Maybe there is something more Cymbalta does?

I'm pretty sure Cymbalta does one other thing besides raise serotonin...not sure what it is, but I wouldn't be against trying other ADs if this one doesn't help my mood, anxiety, or pain.

I'm on Cymbalta for depression, and it helps with my pain as well. I didn't think that it made a difference until I ran out, and my back was really hurting. . I hope you have success with the Cymbalta.

As mentioned, the only issue with Cymbalta (or any medication) is coming off too quickly/cold turkey. I accidentally did this years ago with Cymbalta and it was NOT a fun few weeks! LOL

But that was mine own stupidity with not working with my Dr. to tirate down off them!

The years that I was on them it did a great job on my nerve pain. Thankfully most of this went away in my neck after my 3rd fusion.

And yes, it does have some properties in it to help with depression which most all of us with chronic pain go through at some point.

The other thing for me was that I had to take the medication at night as I would get a big energy boost from it. When I first started on it and took the pill in the morning, I would have too much trouble trying to fall asleep that night!

But it's different for everyone....try not to project into the future about "if" you have to come off of it....just hope that it helps some with your pain levels.

As I say a lot around here, using as many modalities to help with your pain is the best way to go. This way you never rely solely on medication to do the trick!
