I am truly in pain, but yet I get treated fine by the Dr., its the staff that give me strange looks, all my suffering is documented, but the worse are my legs they never stop hurting, I mean really bad.  I had a spinal fushion, a  12 hr surgery.  Now i feel like someone has beaten me with a bat, hit by a truck then thrown in a dumpster and left for dead.  My knees dislocate, OMG my legs  are becoming deformed my feet are on the side of my body and i have become boldlegged and there burning 24 hrs a day, i can only stand for 4 minutes then it feels like my spine is going to fall out of my body.  I am on medication but i am still in pain, that i dont think i can handle anymore, i feel like its killing me or im going to loose my mind.  I hardly go out of the house, I eat only what i can find in the fridge till the last crumb is left then i drag myself to the grocery store and let the cart hold me up i grab what i can for the 10 minutes i can take.  I read about about these people that go through great lenghts to get medications and it makes it bad for the people such as myself who really need it. I hate that i am ruined i went back to school and was very successful and then BAM my life is good for nothing i cant even keep a thought due to the fact that i am in extreme pain, I try to meditate and praying always to keep my sadness away i really do try.  Most of my friends are gone but i have my daughter who is 35 and she is a great help to me thanks for listening

Beaten, welcome to HW. First let me tell you that most of us here feel your pain! We cringe at your descriptive words because we have lived them and understand them. Here we gather from all walks of life spanning several continent's yet having one common tie. Pain and the unmerciful luck of living it every single day.

The one truly disturbing thing that I gathered from your words are that your incredibly undertreated!! We all here know that it takes the right combination of medical people working with you to help you thru various methods and treatments to achieve a life that has a quality that's acceptable. Your not getting that.

You have to be your biggest supporter! I urge you to explain your pain and what living with it's doing to you to the Dr exactly as you have here. Take your daughter with you and allow her to tell the Dr how she see's the pain.

Each of us here use not one drug, one procedure, or one method to stay afloat! We use many together! You didn't share what meds you use for pain or neuropathy, depression, yes we are in that state at points in the battle! Do you go to therapy? Do you use creams, heat, tens, so much we can share with you to help you help your Dr but first you have to find the kind willing to work with you if yours isn't!

Glad you found us and hope you continue to post and possibly show you the road to a better less pain filled life.

Good morning Beaten!….and Welcome to the Chronic Pain Forum!

I read your post, and my heart just sank, as I recognize the Physical and Emotional misery that you are going through. I'm also a fellow recipient of back surgery, and the road has not been easy. I'm still in 24/7 pain, although I have finally found a decent combination of meds to relieve much of my daily pain.

I totally agree with Vickie, in that you seem under-medicated. Is it possible for you to share with us the current meds that you are on?

I'm running behind this morning and headed to church shortly with my best friend. I will check back in later today, and will try to give a better reply for you. In the meantime, keep checking here for other responses to your post. We have several members who suffer from back pain that may have suggestions for you, and certainly will offer a very warm welcome to you.

Take care, and hang in there! I can guarantee that we here fully understand what it is like to suffer from chronic pain 24/7 and are sympathetic to your story and cries for help.

good morning beaten. welcome aboard. sorry to hear about your pains. how long ago was your surgery and to you have a pain management doctor you see. it's a great site here and everyone isvery helpful in ways
to help with pains and conditions. i can definitely relate to some of your issues and pains. i've had 4 back surgeries , two of them fusisoins one failed and one succesful. last week i had a pain pump put in and this thursday i get the medicine put in. looking forward to that. i can deifintly relate to your leg pain. drives me crazy. am wondering if its rls or never damage. maybe both. anyway i find it best to moderate my time between laying down which helps and walking around if your able to do so. i'm sure you'll find some good help here. along with many good friends. i wish you the best of luck and ease in your pain..

Welcome to the CP forum.... I'm really sorry though to hear of all of the pain you have.

A few quick thoughts - really try not to worry about strange/bad looks - from anyone. The one thing I've learned along the way through all of my health/pain issues - is that no one is in YOUR body and truly knows what's going on. There's always going to be someone to "judge" you - no matter what. So really try not to worry about that unnecessary stuff.

Do you mind me asking you what you are using for pain? As Vickie shared - most of us here have a multi-discipline approach to treating our pain.

For instance - re: my own pain issues - I use 3 different narcotic meds, one muscle relaxer, one nerve med on a daily basis. I also fill in as needed w/ ibuprofen as needed and Excedrin. I try to eat healthy.... the only exercise I can do is gentle walking - but I try to do that daily. When my pain flares - I go in and get trigger injections, etc - from my PM doc. Over the years, I've also done PT, massage, nerve blocks and on down the line.

So - to me - with all the med choices out there........ and the other modalities that others have mentioned.... to me - very few people should be in so much pain that they can't function or have a decent quality of life. The goal is not zero pain - but pain reduction to lead a decent QOL (quality of life).

You definitely sound like you are undermedicated or need med adjustments?

Oh Beaten, I was so taken by how much you hurt! I have had 1 back surgery in 2010 and now I fear I am back to square one with other "discs" again. I know exactly how you feel but as they have mentioned above, it does take "different" medications to help alleviate enough to where you feel "positive". At first my pain was so bad I could not sleep longer than 2 hours, I now have a "nerve" medicine that is allowing me to sleep at least 3.5 hours at a time. That alone helped me cope with the pain so much better. I was feeling like you, down and beaten. Please see if your daughter can go with you, it does help so much to have someone with you to hear and also tell the doctors exactly what you are going through. The important thing is do not give up on yourself! You are your best spokesperson for your body. I too am working on getting more information and taking charge more of what the doctors are doing to my body. You are worth it! Please keep posting, it has made me feel better to get someone to respond to me, just knowing that there are others going thru the same thing helps in the fact that you will not feel so "alone". I will be praying for you tonight. Bless you.
