I had 2 today done by x-ray to guide the doctor and was given the Michael Jackson medicine. Mine were in the SI joint and the bursa. Have you all had luck with these working? If so, how long did they work.

For now I'm not sure the pain I'm feeling is from the shot or if it's a continuation of the pain I already had. I was told it takes 2-3 days to tell if the shots work.

I wanted to know your experience with these injections. Doctor said if these 2 injections do not relieve my main that I need to have a back MRI.

Hey Scorpio-girl,

Glad to hear that you had the spinal block today. Funny that you call it the MJ medicine - I've heard that before...lol. Sadly, I think that med will always have the MJ connection.

I've had many blocks over the years.

I think the pain you are experiencing is probably a combo of both - from getting it and the pain you currently have. Within a couple days (like you said - 2 to 3) - you should feel improvements with your pain. The "soreness" from your shot will stop..... and it should start dropping your chronic pain.

In all honesty - I've had the blocks work both ways -- some that completely worked and helped for many weeks.... and then others that didn't do anything.

I would just try to take it easy over the next few days - and see how it goes. I'm really hoping that they work for you.

Side note - have you had an MRI prior to this? Or was the doc just saying that they'll do another one, if the injections don't help?

Wow, I've never before had Propofol during any spine procedure!

My PM usually just puts in a bit of numbing medication/local anesthetic in first, then does it...I'm blessed that it has never hurt. He is a Board Certified Anesthesiologist and PM.

They have worked well for me as an adjunct to my other modalities. They work for a good 3-4 months for me:)

I hope that things will calm down a bit over the next few days and that it is able to give you at least some pain relief which is all that we can hope for. Bring it down a notch or two...

Thanks for the info. The doctor is a Pain Doctor who is also a Board Certified Anethesiologist. I was not totally out so that when the procedure was finished, I woke pretty quickly after about 15 minutes and felt fine. Hopefully those 2 injections will help me with the pain, but it's only been early this AM that I had the procedure. The med used is frequently used for colonoscopy patients, too.

As for a back MRI, my ortho man here is concerned about the back due to the fact that I had a double lumbar fusion in June '12...and there is a worry that this past surgery may be causing the pain I am having. So...if the shots work, I will most likely not need the MRI. I had a neurosurgeon do the back surgery in Houston. That fusion did take place after 1 year of healing. I hope nothing has gotten messed up with that procedure!
