well it's almost christmas. how's every one doing this year. shopping and decorateing all done.
finished putting up our lights yesterday and i'm paying for it today. lota back pain today. i guess
that even though i've got a new pain pump i still need to keep to some of my restrictions.
got me thinking, how is everyone doing as far as decorateing and aches and pains.
i found that i wasn't really eagar to try anything just because of the pain that would come from
doing some activities that i don't normally do.(hanging lights) amazing how some of the littlest
things we try to accomplice can bring on the biggest pain.

This time of year always stresses me out because there is so much to do and then my pain goes crazy. I am doing things different this year and just doing a little bit here and there as I need to. My son totally made my life much easier yesterday. He brought me a dishwasher and I nearly cried like a baby when he knocked on the door and said allo mom, Merry Christmas lol. I know it seems silly because everyone has one but for someone that suffers from chronic pain, it's a huge thing. Anyway, yes you have to take it slow and realize that you aren't superman. Of course I find that having cookies around always helps me.

Actually, I can relate very much to the "dishwasher" situation! The last 3 places we lived before our move to NH, did not have a dishwasher! So I understand the frustration of having to stand at the sink and clean the dishes, pots, pans,....and having a dirty sink more often than I'd care to share. But I couldn't do it all at one go.

In fact, this is the first time since Hubby and I have been together that we have our own washer and dryer! I suppose that can sound just as strange, to think "well everyone has one," and all that. But we had to use the Laundromat. When my CP was really kicking up, flaring up, or I was recovering from one of my surgeries, I felt so dreadful because on top of the long commutes he was making to and from work, he now had to drive over and load up on quarters and hang out at the Laundromat to do our clothing.

I felt so useless....

When we made our move here and got our own washer and dryer (and dishwasher), I cried too! I was so thrilled because as odd as this sounds, I like doing laundry. I told my MIL that now I know I'm getting older when I'm more excited to get household appliances than jewelry or clothing!

We've put our Christmas decorations on hold this year, but Hubby did manage to string up some of those tiny white light "icicle" lights in the bedroom. They're so beautiful. I hate to admit it but the most festive thing I've done to decorate is get a wreath on our front door!

What a great gift not only for washing dishes but as a place to put dirty dishes.
Did not have one for 10 yr before moving here & am so grateful.

I still have no decorations up & probably will not .. too painful just getting thru each day right now

I can relate, Merrida. No dishwasher, no washer/dryer.

I do lights on wreathes in the windows. Easiest that way.

The worst was hanging these garlands in the doorways. I got out the stepstool, and used dark green plant wire. Best idea ever.

Good question Mark, how are we doing? Well we will all know about Weds night or Thursday!! When it's all over, but the crying!! Lol. The number of "misery " posts will rise, the number of folks having multiple flares will follow and all because we just for once a year want to give our family's and loved one's a "normal " Xmas.

We unfortunately will hang to many lights, spend far too many hours shopping, wrapping, and baking and cooking. We will stay up too late, eat too much and pick up too many niece's, nephew's and grandchildren.

We then will spend the days following Xmas trying to survive!! Yet year after year we do it again knowing.

Sometimes in this journey I've come to realize there's things in my life that are just bigger than my pain and having another wonderful, memory and Love filled Xmas is just one of them.

If it's one thing 30 years in the medical field taught me, it would be that life really is precarious and all of our years are numbered, every Xmas is likely to be some loved one's, family or friends last one. That makes making great Xmas memories, spending every happy, joyful moment celebrating, much much bigger than the price I will trade.

In the same boat as everyone here...We decorated the tree about a week or so ago. Was in a bad pain day immediately starting the following morning.

Also, totally agree with you nvrthesame98! I will force myself to my detriment for the sake of a wonderful time/memory. I worry I'll slowly lose the strength to force myself to do things in the future...but right now, I get so caught up in the moment that I'll curse myself the next day. But, a few days later...I'll look back and be glad that I DID force myself to do so.

Whether that be enjoying Xmas music while decorating the tree with my loving wife...or wearing my back brace and trekking around New Orleans with my family for a whole day. A really bad pain day will be just that, a day...and while the memory of the pain could potentially haunt me...sometimes that memory will be much bigger.

Though...everyone is different. Including their pain.
