Colon Cancer. Side effects from chemo. Eloxtin and S5U

Hi I was diagnosed with colon cancer stage 3 . Did anybody have side affects from these two chemo drugs. Eloxtin and S5U ? What side effects did you have? How long did it take them for them to go away. My side effect are tingleing and burning and cramping in hands. My thighs all the way to my feet tingle burn and cramp especially my calfs. It feels somebody is putting a vice on my calfs and squeezing them. Its really bad at night. I have no appetite, Some times my stomach burns and also aches. I am all ways tired. I feel like my insides are shaking and I get nervous. I get headaches. The cold weather really bothers me. I can't touch cold objects. Please any one who has colon cancer and these two chemo drugs could please tell me there side affects. Misty.

Hi Misty, I went to Drugs.com & looked up the Eloxatin & they have a very long list of side effects that should be reported to the dr immediately and I suggest you call your dr that rx'd now. They had some side effects listed similar to what you wrote above so based on that if this were me I would calling the dr. I do not know what S5U is but please discuss this with the dr.

Please let us know what the dr tells you.....Susie

Hi Misty you wrote that one of your chemo medications was S5U are sure that the medication isn't Fluorouracil (5-FU) This medication is given for colon cancer and can cause a condition called Hand-Foot syndrome, see link below:

You definitely need to talk with your oncologist about these symptoms and the sooner the better.

Hi Susie I went to the oncologist today. He said its side effects from the chemo. This happens useally after the 10th treatment. Well my side effects happen after the third treatment. I can take medication very well. I have a low tolareace. He said it will go away. But it might take 3 to 4 months. Lucky me. Hopefully it will go away.

Hi White beard. I went to the onocoligist today. He said this was the side effects from the chemo. Yes its called Fluorovacil. All so S 5U. He said that these side effects that I have useally happens at the 10 treatment. Mine happen at the third. He said it will go away but it might take 2 to 3 months or even longer. I told him I have a very tolerance to medication so he s going to stop the chemo for a while until I get better I hope. Do you know any one who had colon cancer and had these side effects to these medications ? Misty.

Hi Misty, yes I have known people that have had the side affects that you have mentioned, but it was along time ago when working on a Oncology unit. So I am sorry that I can not be of more help to you, however have you checked on-line with the American Cancer Society to see about what information they might have that might help you? I did some checking about chemo side effects, and I am enclosing a link that might or might not prove helpful to you.

I would suggest that you check further with this site and see if they have some information that might be helpful. I will continue to do some checking to see if I can find something that might help you.

Have you considered checking with another Oncologist to get a second opinion about the treatment your getting and what else might be available to you? Allot of doctors (oncologists) are different, some are more aggressive than others in their treatment styles, and some rely on older established treatments, while others use more advanced newer treatments. Everyone is so different and what works for one person might not work for another! Some times it is just a matter of educated trial and error to find the right treatment for the right patient.

Hi white beard thank you for checking. Do you know how long it took the people for the side effects to go away? I only had three treatment and I am feeling this way. I would appreciate it. I all so would like to know if there body shaked inside. Like really nervous. I can't relax or sleep good. Misty
