I also know first hand how the media changes the content of what they air/print. What I learned first hand, was more informative than any journalism class. The new media can take 1 sentence out of context and change the entire meaning of it. The will take a sentence and play part of it one place and the other part another place in the story.
You're right, it's all about
ratings. Maybe when they do a story on the cost of someone being in a nursing home, only because they can't take care of themselves because they can't get their pain treated/properly treated, someone will listen. Right now the majority of CP patients are receiving treatment, and most of them believe their treatment will continue as it has. But, as new restrictions go into affect more and more drs are going to get more conservative. And the insurance companies are playing a bigger role. The "chronic pain doesn't kill, learn to live with it" mentality is getting stronger.
The only people who are being affected by this new mentality are CP patients. If someone wants to abuse a drug, they will. And those that abuse/misuse have the ability to go and do things physically that those that suffer from CP can't. If someone wants to get high, they will find a way. For those who suffer from chronic pain, we either have the meds or we suffer there is no other alternative.
