What Happens If I Lost a Morphine Rx?

I received a Morphine Rx (for 30 days of pills) from my doctor in the mail a week ago. I opened the envelope in the lobby of my apartment building, and I thought I then put the Rx into my wallet, but today when I planned on filling the Rx at my pharmacy (Walgreens) I discovered it was not there!

I have searched my apartment entirely! I even went through my garbage - cat litter and all (ugh!). I found the envelope it came in but not the Rx.

All I can think of is that I dropped the Rx in the lobby and that someone took it. I'm sure my doctor will give me a new Rx -- I've been seeing him for 21 years and have never lost a Rx before.

BUT, what happens if someone found the Rx I lost and filled it using a fake ID with my name? (I live in Wisconsin, and for the past year or so my pharmacy has required that you show an ID to fill schedule II Rxs, such as Morphine. I assume that is now required by law.)

If somebody did fill my Rx using my name, and especially if it was filled at a Walgreens, and I now come in with another Rx for Morphine, will they tell me that you just had a Morphine Rx filled and it hasn't been 30 days yet, and you can't have another Rx filled until 30 days has passed??

Hello & welcome to the chronic pain forum. Sorry to read what has happened with the script. I suggest that you call whatever pharmacy you use & let them know you lost the script and not fill it. But, it may be too late if someone found it & used it. You also need to let the dr know ASAP.

I cannot tell you what a pharmacy may or may not do in the event they filled the script already. If they ran it through on your insurance and all, there is a very good chance they may refuse to fill another script. Things are really tight & restrictive these days when it comes to narcotics.

Mlg81, I doubt that the person who found your prescription knows how to make fake ids... If they did fill it, the pharmacy (usually) will ask them for your birth date, and unless they know you... They would not know it. I would contact your doctor's office asap and see if they can check the state monitoring system to see if it was filled. If it was, go to the pharmacy and ask to see what ID was used.

I'm willing to bet it has not been filled though. I've hidden my scripts from myself before. I put them in a crevice so no one else can find it and then forgetwhere it is. I hope you find it or the doctor is willing to replace it. Please let us know what happens and if you find it!

The pharmacy usually writes down the info, name, address, DL #, etc. But, like Linds said, I doubt the person made a fake ID. If they did and used in to "appear" it was you, they can be charged with obtaining a Schedule II by fraud. Your dr and/or pharmacists can look up your profile in PMP to see if it's been filled.

All I can tell you is what my doctor does when it comes to lost narcotic prescriptions. You have to wait until the next time. They will not hand out another script period.

I suggest you call Walgreens and alert them to the fact, they will make a notation of the fact a prescription is missing, may mean a little more hassle proving your you but needs to be done.

It's not as easy to pass of a fake I'd especially at Walgreens! Yours is scanned into the computer and that means they better make one that matches yours perfectly picture and all!

Not to mention they also have to look like you as well!

This may sound kinda silly, but if your apartment building has a lost and found, you might want to check with them. Are you sure the rx was in the envelope ? The reason I ask is because if you're didn't actually take it out and read it, it is possible that the drs office forgot to put it in the envelope.
