It can be a great component, I went through a STEPP program that included psychological methods, physical therapy and pain medication. Any good pain management program should have it. The best for me has been all inclusive, starting with a completed diagnosis of exactly what was triggering the pain, a long difficult and exhausting quest, beginning in 1992 and ending in 2008. For me, inflammation in my intestines during porphyria attacks (that was the hardest part HCP diagnosis) presses on my spine where I had my epidural (childbirth 1989). Knowing that, I can work on the inflammation, pain and muscle posture to minimize the pain. I am always in pain, but understanding the causes, and sources helps me to take the right actions!
