is a new written prescription for same medication considered a refill?

Hello, new member here. I couldn't find this question answered in other forums, so here it goes.
I was prescribed norco (60 x 2/day - 30 day supply) about 1.5 months ago after my 1st doctors appointment. My 2nd Dr appt was scheduled for a month and 3 days later. I ran out of meds about 4-5 days before my 2nd Dr appointment so I called the Dr office and the nurse faxed to the pharmacy a "short supply" which was 30pills, 2 x day to hold me until my next Dr appt.
After my 2nd Dr appt, I was provided with a paper script, electronically filled and signed with 1 refill for same med, same dose and supply (60 - 2x day)
I have not filled that prescription yet. If I try to get that new prescription filled 10 days after I received the "short supply", is it considered a new prescription? Or is it considered a refill because it's the same drug, dose and supply and I will have to wait until I run out?

Hello.I'm not positive but I think the pharmacy that I deal with(mom and pop) would count it as a refill and fill it on the 27th day.

My pharmacy will fill prescriptions 3 days early but my Pain Management always writes a Fill Date on the prescription which is 30 days.

I wasn't much help/Maybe someone else can give you a more definitive answer.

eta: Since the last prescription you got was a 15 day supply you may have to wait 2 or 3 more days.Doesn't hurt to ask them though.

I agree with Vickie. First, you quite likely won't be able to fill a Rx for a controlled substance and pay cash at a different pharmacy without them doing their own checking. Everything is integrated now, so you've just stepped into a pile of pucky if you make this move.

They'll see you were trying to be deceptive by saying you don't have insurance. (Flag) Most PM clinics require you to fill at the same pharmacy (which should have a copy of your med contract on file), so traveling elsewhere is against the rules. (Flag) The pharmacies are likely to confer with each other (Flag) and with your prescribing doctor (Flag) and you may well then find yourself SOL when it comes to further care, further Rx's, and getting any other doctor to be willing to take you on. You've made yourself a risk factor and liability for all involved. (Flag).

New rx or refill, it goes into the PMP database. Although, I agree they probably won't fill it. And if they do, you could be red flagged. If the dr thought you needed to take to take it more often, he would have changed the directions and quanity. Have you told your dr that taking this 2x a day isn't doing enough to help with the pain ?
