I dislike this article in Washington Post.. links use of precrip pain med directly to heroin

Its a prime example Diane and i think a challenge of sorts to those powers that be by the Post,to recall what happened in the war on OXY-C in early 2000.

How they didnt consider the consequences of running into the forest and chopping down all the trees and not forseeing where they were all going to fall.

Its a blatant reminder that dealers will offer alternatives,addicts will not just stop because their drug of choice is nolonger available,and money is the root of all that is evil. Your dealers want the most money for their product,so cutting it thinner with whatevers readily available and cheap but puts an added umph too the high,ex: fentenyl,without anyway to control who gets how much in what amounts mind you. Even worse they be even cheaper and greedier and grab whatevers under the kitchen sink,and your seeing that greed by way of deaths associated with its use.

They are cutting down heavily on street access to prescription meds. Two kinds of people are effected ,addicts and us and ive covered the addicts not stopping,now look at CPers common mantra. We will literally try anything to break the cycle of pain. Most say it and many mean it. Heroin will work!! For pain as well as those horrific symptoms of w/d when suddenly after years and years your meds are not getting filled by your pharmacy,your insurance wont pay and you cant,or your DRs been sanctioned for being compassionate and adhering to the " Do no harm" policy.

I see what the reports trying to convey and although I may not like it I applaud the reporters attempt at a spash of cold water to wake the fools forcing history to repeat itself.

I cannot imagine how someone with an addiction to an illegal drug (or illegally obtained drug) is able to get help... I read very little about helping - seems to be about blame.. it isn't always about forcing an addict (& I agree there is no way to force).

Too often I/we? Think of an addict as a person living on the street, committing crimes to support their habit. No idea what percentage of addicts fit that profile.

The harder it becomes to access legal pain meds, the higher the number of people will be who either search for an alternative way to live or perhaps make a different, permanent choice.

IMHO The problem of addiction may only get worse if this trend to make us CPers look guilty to the public is not reversed & soon.

There may be far more then you realize. The actor himself had been in pain management in fact,as was several others that went into history as dying from heroin overdoses,so again I have to ask myself what are the numbers really? I also came from one of those states that this war made a direct hit on and fare better in florida then there. Dozens of legitimate pain clinics and pain doctors were forced to stop prescribing or else!! What happened to all those pm patients? WB, recently moved to the area and couldnt find not one dr to prescribe his meds,not one clinic that offered him more then therapy,injections,stims,and non-narcotic meds via a pump?? He has to travel upstate 100s of miles from his new home to seek treatment.

What do all those who dont have travel options,no car,cant drive,no money,? Where do they turn? A permenant out? Continue to be nonfunctional&bedridden with pain resulting in loss of home,kids,their very sanity?

When for the small cost of less then a dinner out for two they can go out to any street corner downtown and have something to prevent all that?? Its naiviety to think its just the junkies and addicts out there as a result of this war they have waged against US and yes I mean us because we have not been just Innocent victims we have been the primary target from the outset.

They didnt direct this war on the street dealers,or amp up the number of treatment facilities and opening up those options to any and all cost free. They spent billions on targeting pain clinics,pain doctors,and implementing policies to make us not be able to fill meds. Its our doctors running scared not the dealers!!

This disgusting war in its entiriety was waged against legitimate meds with legitimate uses in the management of chronic pain to offer us a better quality of life.

Go to any search engine and correlate the articles you find on prescription drug wars versus any kind of the such against meth?? The numbers wont even be close! So is this a " war on drugs" or simply a war on us?
Just as many lives are ruined,destroyed,children neglected and abused,because of meth as any prescription drug i know yet no war on that??

My two cents worth coming from a mother of a son with addiction issues and decades of working on the frontline of watching the lives illegal drugs destroy and the millions prescription drugs save.

All i can say to that is if your in enough pain long enough? Not one of those things are going to be foremost in your thiughts!! When the only relief you can see at the end of the day is that little baggy or the wrong end of a Smith
and Wesson then you will have seen those 10s on a pain scale everyone is so quick throw out.

Do you honestly think I would not have celebrated my fathenrs choice over the other instead of the road he took?

Not on your life!! May he rest in peace now and i know he will never again hurt like that and pray I never do.
