Hello all :)
Thought I do a quick check-in. On Tues, it will be 2 weeks post jaw surgery. When the surgeon looked, the titanium implants themselves looked great, but he was shocked by the amount of bone growing up the tendons on each side. As I mentioned in my other post, this is not a complication that the TMJ Concepts drs have ever encountered. THe downside of this is that I have nothing to compare my healing too.
My right side feels pretty good. I think that's the side the surgeon removed 2in of bone. Still have a nasty bruise from my eye down to under my chin. My little guy said he's embarrassed to go out with me cause he's afraid someone will think he hit me. That made me laugh. He's always been super active and involved in sports so he's often covered in bruises. He's had a couple of awful black eyes and I know people look at me and look at him. We all know what they are thinking.
Left side is just awful. Many of the stitches are in the inside of my cheek and it's swollen against the teeth. Everything I eat has to be pretty squishy or liquid. I'm so tired of ice-cream and pudding, but the cold feels good against the inflammation. I really wish there was someone I could talk to whose had a similar surgery, but that's not an option. I have nothing to gauge my recovery time against. I also don't want to make a 3hr drive back up to Richmond unless I have to. I have a recheck April 2nd. I can do the drive alone, but it really wipes me out-big time. I have a friend who will take me up on the 2nd and we'll try to make a fun day out of it. I'm very blessed to have friends and family who will help me out by driving or making sure my little man gets to where he needs to be.
Saw my pain management Dr's PA on Thursday. For now we are going to stick with the oxycodone 30mg every 3hrs and Fentanyl 50mcg/hr. I have Valium, Baclofen, and Amytriptline at night. We talked about switching up some meds, but decided to wait until next month when I see my Dr. Right now there is so much going on that a med change might cause more trouble than it's worth. Klonopin (sp?) is an option, but I'd rather stick with what we know at this point.
It's a nasty, rainy Sunday here. Little man was supposed to have a soccer game but it was cancelled. Yesterday in his game he had one goal and 3 assists. Love my little soccer fanatic :) As you guys know, I've been in the hospital more than I've been out these past few months. Sitting on the sidelines in the sun watching my kid play his favorite sport is the best medicine out there :)
