Are there any new pain meds on the market?

I am having a root canal done in April. I haven't had one of them in a long time but at that time I had no allergies to codeine. Now I am severely allergic or intolerant of any sort of derivative of codeine - I get extremely nauseous and my BP drops dangerously low. I had foot surgery a year or so ago and the doc gave me Norco with Zofran. I had a very hard time with that combination but it was doable (barely!).

In case I need any pain meds for the root canal, is there anything new on the market? Or is there anyone out there that has the same sensitivities as me but found something that works?

(I can't take Vicodin, Tylonel #3, Ultram)

A Dentist usually writes Norco and sometimes Percodan,Percocet,which contain Oxycodone.Have you ever taken Percocet?

I had a root canal and never had to take anything for pain after having it done. The pain relief was so incredible once it was finished and I had been popping pills like crazy because of the infection in my jaw. Of course not everyone is the same and you may find that you need something. I wouldn't think that you would need anything strong though. I do hope they have you on an antibiotic to clear up infection before having it done. That is what is causing the pain and if there are any exposed roots. I hope you will be one that only needs some ibuprofen or something similar. Good luck.

Lynnster, I have actually had 3 root canals. 2 of them were fine, the 3rd was a doozy! Lol Btw, my root is not infected. The dentist (an oral surgeon) said it in very long fancy words but basically it's chronic inflammation of the root.
