Been in constant pain for past month and a half.

about a month and a half ago I was admitted to the hospital with renal failure. The doctors do not know what caused it but they think it was a result of my gastroparisis and severe dehydration. I was in the hospital for 5 days until my labs showed definite improvement but I still was not back to normal.

As a result of my lab work my primary doctor reduced my pain medication by half. I went from 4mg of dilaudid to 2mg on the grounds that the 2mg would work just fine since I was not able to get rid of the medication as fast or as well.

Well the 2mg does nothing for me except keeping me from going into withdrawal. I have not seen my primary since being released but have left messages for her with no results. As a consequence I have been in major pain for the past month and a half.

It would probably be best to call & make an appt & go in and see the dr. I doubt very seriously you will get anything done by telephone when it comes to discussing medication.

Many years ago I was in the hospital & an idiot nurse did not know what PRN meant apparently. I have a very strong diuretic that I take PRN. Well, as it turns out I was given this every day & it caused the kidneys to go haywire, all because of too much of a diuretic. Keep yourself hydrated to stay out of trouble.

I have an appointment this coming Weds. It was scheduled 3 months ago. It is next to impossible to get into my doctor in between scheduled appointment.

Hi Jim Wow. That's scary that you went into renal failure. I'm glad that it's better. I am sorry that you've been in so much pain with the doctor decreasing your meds. I wish you good luck with getting something that will ease your pain.

That is very frightening! great to hear you are doing better with your kidneys but sheesh that is not cool dropping your meds to a pain level thats so high. Maybe your doctor can get you on something that will not hurt your kidneys. I will be looking for your update!
