Hospital stay

Well I ended up going to the er for my stomach. They did bloodwork and that is pointing to a return of the bile duct stricture I had last year. So they had to transfer me to the hospital I was treated at for that and I've been admitted there. So most likely I will be having another ercp but that involves a feeding tube being placed again, which I am not looking forward to having again. I really wanted to go swimming this week. I couldn't go at all last year because I had the tube and that may be happening again this year. So not what I was expecting.

I wish you luck in this! I can only imagine how disappointed you feel, so close to summer and facing this again. What rotten timing, eh?

As Vickie said, let's hope that things were caught early enough to let you get some decent swimming in this summer, somehow, some way!

Sorry to read this! I've spent many a night in the hospital and know how dispiriting it can be, even when the care is good, as you wish you were swimming/doing other good stuff.

As everyone mentioned, at least you've caught the problem at the onset (you are so wise to go to the ER and not put it off and make things worse!) and are getting treatment, so it's entirely possible that you will still get in some swims this summer. Best wishes.

I was discharged yesterday. The only thing they really did was a MRI of my abdomen which didn't show any sign of a stricture. But last time it took forever for it to actually be seen. I'm waiting to get an egd done. They wouldn't do it while I was in the hospital so I have an appt tomorrow to discuss getting that done.

Nope no feeding tube. They didn't do the ercp. They probably should have to make sure I didn't have a stricture. Since last time I had one it didn't show up in the imaging tests right away. They really should have done either that or the at least the egd. I would have liked to leave with some sort of diagnosis. Instead of just guessing still. But I go to see the gi np tomorrow. So I'll have her get me scheduled for an egd. And discuss the possibility of it being a stricture. If the egd comes back clean with no sign of an ulcer than it's got to be a stricture even if it's not showing up on imaging. Then I'll request they do an ercp anyway. Which they should have done all of this while I was in the hospital. I'm very annoyed about that.

Yes, I've had that experience, too. I was in the hospital for bowel obstruction and had not eaten for days. One doc suggested a colonoscopy, as I was empty and needed it anyway. But the doc in charge told me no, that I'd have to go home and have the scope two days later at another hospital. So I went home, totally dizzy and out of it and unable to get an adequate amount of water in orally (the IV was really helpful for that!) and by the time I had the scope, I was in really bad shape. Not cool. :(

Sorry you're getting all of this drawn out over such a long time period, What. Hope they get it sorted soon.

Edit to add: Oddly, another time I was in the same hospital for similar troubles (good old chronic illness!), and they performed an MRI and a combination endoscopy/colonoscopy, so I guess sometimes it depends on the doctor with whom you're dealing.
