stiffness in post-microdiscectomy wound

After 2 months of severe and deteriorating sciatica pain in left leg and buttocks i decided to be operated. My left foot was starting to become less strong and more number and weak. I was worried that nerve damage would be permament and could no more tolerate the constant pain. After 2 days post-op all pain has gone away and most pins and needles and numbness. However the wound feels very sore and what worries me is this feeling of stiffness in my lower back on incisio site. A feeling like i am carrying metal and cannot move and like a heavy weight is pulling me down, very strange. Is this normal? why do i feel this stifness on the wound? is it because of my bones after the operation or because tissue was cut to reach into the disc herniation?
please advise!
has anyone felt like this before?

Hello & welcome to the forum. How long ago did you have your surgery? Have you been in to see the surgeon & let him/her know what is going on? What about trying to call the drs office & asking the nurse this question, have her run it by the dr to see what he thinks? I know I am asking a lot of questions, but you have not provided much info either. If your surgery was recent, stiffness can set in, but in all honesty you need to talking to a health professional about this.

i had the surgery 3 days ago
doctor says that all kinds of pain are normal after surgery given that sciatica pain is gone
i feel my waist and back heavy and wounded and stiff
is this expected?

Hi and welcome to CP! And you Drs definitely right! The swelling alone would make that heaviness feeling and pretty common at this stage of the post-op and recovery. Did you get any directions as to how to apply heat and ice? Very important in keeping that swelling to a minimum. You can make your own ice packs that are very easy and I've found more pliable and comfortable with a zip lock baggie and equal amounts of alcohol and water. Equal amounts allows for more of a slushy state versus the 1/3 water 2/3 alcohol which hardens more.

We have another person that had microsurgery & you may want to look on page 2 or 3 for the username Pienic, this person has documented their journey of microsurgery for others to read. You may find some useful info in those posts, its about 2-3 pages long.
