excruciating stabbing pain behind both shoulder blades

Ok about 3 years ago I was woken up by a short sharp stabbing spasm type pain behind my shoulder blade..it was horrendous like a contraction..it only lasted for a few seconds then I tried to go back to sleep..but every 10 mins or so this same pain would come and go for 3 days..I had an xray but showed nothing ..was given gabbapentin but that didn't help..this pain kept coming maybe 2 or 3 times a day..the pain is that sudden n painful I nearly dropped my baby once n nearly crashed my car..I went to see a chiropractor once a week who made lots of cracking noises out of my body..but this made it more frequent times a day ..this pain has never gone but has become more frequent lately as well as having a pain which starts at the nape of my neck down my shoulders arms n into my fingers ..this pain is like a dull ache all day but sharp and more painfully after sleep or rest..also I suffer from similar pain in my lower back bum and down the back of my thighs..over the last month or so it's all got to much..I have basically begged my doc to refer me for mri..and she has agreed..has anyone else had anything like this especially the shoulder pain..this can happen at anytime doing anything

When is your mri scheduled? I hope it will show whatever the problem is. Is it going to look at your neck and shoulders, upper back, what? I have not had what you are describing, but perhaps someone else will have more information for you. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome to the chronic pain forum. Actually have a question, you said baby? By chance did you have an epidural, spinal block, etc during delivery?

The MRI hopefully will clear up what and you can then get the proper treatment.

Thanks abilene..I dont know im waiting to hear from the hospital, the doctor said maybe 6 weeks. And the doctor has refered for my neck to be scanned..but if this continues like it has done the last week or so I will go back and say I need it sooner..nvrthesame98 I did have a csection with epidural about 6 years ago. The only problem I remember at that time was nobody told the doc my baby was breach so when the needle was in I mentioned something about it to a nurse and the doc quickly removed the needle and went mad at the nurse and then replaced it further up...thanks

There's a very good chance thats where they will find your issues that are causing problems today. We tend to see a higher rate of sciatica in post epi procedures down the road and more so in c-sec epis for whatever reasons, more med required, broader area needing deadened, higher up for c-sec versus vaginal.

Unfortunately all these things that could happen are discussed in the procedure permission form we sign but at that point and time who cares to read it right?

Hopefully it won't take that long to get the MRI and you will at least know what's going on.

Mri is on thurs..but been told the results take between 5-8 weeks

They're telling you 5-8 WEEKS to get results? Or did you mean DAYS?
