12 years with chronic pain

Hi everyone. I came across this website today. New to these forums. I am a female, age 60. I am living with Osteoarthritis, Fibromyalgia, Chronic pain, Chronic Headaches, Irritable Bowel and Neuralgia. I am hard of hearing and have chronic tinnitus. I am on a number of meds - Naproxen, Omeprazole, Baclofen and Nortriptyline. Been on Omeprazole for 11 years, NSAIDS too. Having stomach issues. Have stopped Omeprazole for 2 days. Will I be able to withdraw from some meds? Loring

Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the connection between Nortriptyline and tinnitus. I was previously on Lyrica. I was slowly taken off due to side effects. Completely off, I began to get nerve spasms in my behind and back and Restless Legs at bedtime. I have had trouble sleeping for some time also. The Nortriptyline has stopped the spasms and most nights I sleep much better. My Doc said I am in a deeper sleep. I tried the Fentynal Patch and Oxycontin. Results were not favourable. Used to take Arthritis Tylenol but my Doc got me to stop due to rebound headaches. I think I could take pain in most places but the head pain is unbearable. I do get nerve blocks once a month. I read of all you have been through and it is sad that you have so many health challenges. My nerve damage is possibly from a med to kill a life threatening bacterial infection.

Hi Susie: Yes, I will visit the other forums. I have OA in many joints. The first diagnosed was in my neck. Docs were looking for a reason for the headaches. I can walk still but with pain. I keep moving, it is all that I can do.

Hi Chartreux: I have been a patient at a Headache and Pain Relief Centre for a few years. He said I have combination headaches. I read a book about Headaches and what seems to be mine are called Cervicogenic Headaches. pain is at the base of my skull and up the middle of the back of my head and on both sides at the very top - sometimes into my forehead. I do sometimes get horrible pain in my left eye. I had a couple migraines many years ago. I was on birth control then. I had an aura and then headache. Thought I was going crazy. It was my Mom that told me they were migraines. The headaches are not at all like the migraines that I had. I think Neuralgia, that a Dentist at a Hospital diagnosed is likely correct. It is pain in my upper gums - inside and jaw pain. My Pain Doctor is wonderful at listening. I write notes when I see him. He makes notes on my file, if warranted. I know that windy days are a problem. I hate cold weather. I go through the same thing every day. I do get relief now when I go to bed and fall asleep. I need to take many rest breaks to achieve tasks and chores. I have not given up. Thanks so much for your suggestions.

Have read a number of posts tonight. FYI - I am in Canada and it appears that many or most are in U.S. Our health care systems are different. Our Family Physicians refer you to Specialists when needed and you are not necessarily accepted as a patient. The Specialist may be just working as a Consultant for the FP.
