Pain clinics, can they find pain source

Upjo, have you visited the kidney forum here at Healing Well? That may be a good source of info for you. Another thought is use our search feature here at HW & type in Loin Pain Hematuria & read up on that condition to see if any of the symptoms you have match with that particular disease. Flank pain is one of the symptoms of LPH. I don't think we have anyone currently at Healing Well that has this condition. It is a disease that is very, very difficult to dx & unless a dr knows about it they will not have a clue about it. Not every dr knows what it is. When you read the old posts about LPH, please do not post on those old threads. Instead make a new post about it in the kidney forum to get better coverage with members there.

Yes, there is a real possibility that a good pain mgt dr could come up with a dx for you. Once a dr knows what is going on then they will know how to treat it. I would get a referral to a good pain mgt dr for an evaluation. Either the surgeon or your PCP can make the referral.

First question and I'm likely going to be the one to ask it in the kidney forum but what kind of Dr did the procedure on your kidney?? Neurologist or Urologist?? This is important for you to rule out those things pertaining to the kidney first.

You do Not want to remove a healthy functional kidney and what kind of Dr would even say such a thing? You only have 2,remove one and something happens to the other then your left on dialysis and the transplant list which may disqualify you from the get go because you destroyed the normal functioning one you had.

That's some serious stuff there. You need to find the cause of that pain and it may have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the kidney. You could have had a spinal issue and the position you were put into necessary for the surgery done on the kidney could have aggravated,instigated it or possibly did nothing,just chose this time to act up. Could be a stone going unseen on xray and ultrasound and have you had an IVP since surgery?

Maybe your surgeon's just blowing this off and believing that you just are one of those people who have more post op problems and therefore not really looking for an issue and in that case you need another Dr looking.

First cancel one of those urologist appointments and make one with a Nephrologist!! Huge difference in specialties there.

Stones that are tiny can actually hide in some very small places yet cause some very big problems. The CT depending on whether its with or without contrast may or may not find them.

Try finding a Nephrologist thats not requiring a referrel and let that first appointment be a fact finding mission then he can see what the other Dr says. He's likely being defensive thinking your trying to blame him for botching the surgery or something so he's not going to look too hard and possibly give you a rope to hang him if he did.

If you need a referral, I would contact my insurance & tell them you need their help in obtaining a consult & let them know how the drs are not assisting you with this. A lot of times they can step in & help.
