So I just started the opana er. It feels like i'm swallowing a plastic bottle cap. Makes my stomach hurt. Helps maybe by taking a 8/10 to a 6-7/10 and needing BT meds often.
Should I just keep paying the $80 cash and go back to Oxycontin?

First don't be so quick to throw in the towel on a med many get great relief on. The majority of these meds need time to build up to therapeutic levels in the blood and that's the whole purpose behind LA meds. As for the stomach issues try taking with food or even ask them to call in one of the nausea meds to help for a few days. This also is common when switching meds and also should get better.

You do not want the Drs to think your not giving a particular med a chance to work. It could come across like your dead set on oxy and that could get you up that proverbial creek!

It's only been what? One dose, 2? Certainly not enough time unless you were having life threatening side effects.

I agree with the above. Opana is a good alternative and very effective for many. I took if for awhile and found it helpful. Hope it helps you too in the next few days.

Thanks, I'm going yo try it a good month or two. My doc actually wanted me to stay on the oxycontin but it wasn't covered so we're trying this. It's not Been he best week so I was just frustrated & wanting relief asap. Will continue on. It's the plastic gooy stuff that I was vommiting but that has stopped so I'm all for giving it a try longer.

try and find the generic form of the Opana ER.. I was on the same plastic pills from Kroger and when I switched to a local pharmacy they had generic... they worked wonders..

Hi uniquely me, I as wondering about changing to Opana but the high prices scared me off. The Opana home site says that they will not be licensing generics until 2025! Is it possible that your M&P still has left over opanaER from before the re formulation or are you writing about opaneIR? . . . Q

quincy17, I believe Actavis began making the generic Opana ER in Sept 2013.

Opana is great but i believe the dose is highly under-dosed in almost everyone and the right dose cost a lot.

I take Opana ER and have been given generics in both the 15's & 20's. I always have nausea and never found a difference with this, but for me it gave much better and more even pain relief than Oxycontin. I hope you find some relief with it!

Thanks for the tip, I searched the Actavis site and did find that they won their suit and are making OpanaER as of July 2013. That really ticks me off that Endo (I believe) is handing out bogus info. Watson is also in the process of getting permission to mnfr. Generics as well. . . . Q

Hey Y'all,

This is my first post, so I hope I'm doing this correctly.  I wanted to suggest Zofran (sic) for your nausea as you continue your trial with Opana.  I've not taken that particular med, but I'm 8 months into pain management.  I have been through horrid trials of Methadone (no) and Morphine (no).  I am currently taking Oxycodone 15 mg x 4 per day.  I truly need the extended release, but cannot afford it.

BTW...Quincy, I noticed the Lupron...Do you suffer from endometriosis?

Welcome to Healing Well.We're all in different levels of disrepair and some have found help and some are still searching.

I'm on 10 mg Opana and it seems to be working.

Right body area but I'm the wrong gender. I'm taking Lupron for prostate cancer, mCRPC, but thanks for adding to my knowledge. I had read that it was sometimes Rxed for women but didn't know what for. How is the Oxycodone working for you? Some people have have complained of stomach problems but not too many. I've been Rxed it for going on 8 years with few complaints but, like you, would like to try another ER. Fentanyl didn't work as after 2 years it messed up my reflexes. . . . Q

PS: Welcome to HW, this is the place for sharing your aches, woes, and victories. Have you checked into how to write a signature? It sure beats repeating what ails you, and letting folks know what your problems are will bring you a lot more responses. Just check the info at the top of the board.

OOPS...sorry Q=)  I should have read more before I asked that question.  I don't have cancer, but I've battled an aggressive stage 4 endometriosis.  Lupron was one of the meds I was treated with early on...so I quickly "picked up" on that.  As for the Oxycodone, it is actually not tough on my tummy...unlike most others.  I'm just so very afraid of what I consider the "big gun" pain meds.  However, I've come to the realization that I cannot continue to "handle" this pain with clenched teeth and white knuckles.

My Dr. actually wrote for the generic but my insurance will only cover the name brand (i do not understand this), so after a month I just don't think I can tolerate the Opana. Mainly the GI issues, lack of pain relief, withdrawal symptoms every 8 hours.
