Loading dishwasher

….today it's common to see washers and dryers elevated on pedestals of some sort, and the front loading ones can be a challenge if not elevated. Maybe someday we will see dishwashers elevated in the same way? Spinal problems can bring to light ergonomics we can only hope for!

I actually do wash several things by hand, and yes, it often does seem easier. But for pots and pans when cooking and stuff, I prefer the super clean of the dishwasher. It feels at least like it gets them cleaner??

Who knows. Maybe it's my imagination. That combined with my inability to handle hot water. (And being allergic to latex means I can't wear those gloves to help buffer the heat).

Our washer loads from the top (again, I've read they get the clothes cleaner than front loading ones?) and every time I have to get clothes out of the dryer, it's a pain (in the back *and* the butt) bending over to pull them out of the door.

Given the set up in our house, this is the only way things can be and it's up to me to adapt to my surroundings....

I face the same pains and problems when I vacuum (the twisting or something?) and mop. Even though I'm moving in a straight line, my back seems to only tolerate small amounts of work at a time. This is quite evident when looking at our house! :P

I won't let my CP wife load the dishwasher, period. Every time she does it hurts her back. We split the chore, she rinses and I load . . . Q

I always feel funny when I see my pain doc and get the ? about what daily things are hard to do...because dishes is for me, one of the toughest. (Probably because I don't do laundry or vacuuming anymore, along with a bunch of other stuff). I do not have a dishwasher, but I have learned that I can do dishes at the sink for about 6 minutes at a time (8 on a really good day). Once I get everything set up, I take a little break, then do my 6-8 minutes, then stop. I have learned it's really not worth the pain to do more dishes at one time. Rather split it up and be able to move after doing them. It's annoying sometimes, but I have learned that's the way the task of dishes is going to work for me.

Just wanted you to know you aren't alone in this challenge. I hope you find a routine that works well for you!

I roll around the kitchen on bad days on my basic desk chair that goes up and down. I find the height at which I can comfortably reach the sink and dishwasher!! Lol my kid's use to do it too! I guess for years they thought that was how everyone loaded dishwashers!! I then make my way to the laundry room and unload the washer same way! Chair cost $25 bucks and I wouldn't sell it for $250.

My MIL used a chair for a while too (before she was confined to her wheelchair) and it worked well.

But getting things out from a deep sink and into the lower racks? Still works? I swear, being short as a munchkin does nothing to help matters.....

I have a grabber upstairs and downstairs and use it as well.

I just haven't found it applicable for things like dishes and laundry, nor cleaning the bathroom.

I do the same thing with the dishes when I do them by hand. I have about a 6 minute threshold and I have to stop.

Same thing when I stand to fold clothes out of the dryer. I just can't do it all at once. We have a table set up right next to them, and I get the clothes out in as much of a "bunch" as I can.

But the standing just wreaks havoc with my back. I can only 'dance in place' so much....

I sometimes end up kneeling (but God forbid UPS comes or something because it's a joke seeing me try to get up).

I know we all adapt, I get that. Really, I do.

I compartmentalize as much as I can. Who would have thought a simple dishwasher would bring so many replies? Wow....
