Accurascope procedure

I have been researching the Lumbar AccuraScope procedure and was wondering if anyone has heard of? It is performed in Dallas Texas. I watched a webinar on it and it seems very promising.

I will have to pull it back up and see. My mother is having heart cathe today so can't look now.

It sounds to good to be true. 80,000 plus success surgeries. Very small incision and can take care of multiple problems at once.

The biggest problem was a herniation at L4-L5. I hurt my back at sixteen and went through a lot of misery. As explained in my newsletter there was several problems but that was the big one. I knew the minute I stepped off the recovery bed that life was going to be a lot better. And it is.

Also they worked on multiple levels and did two other disc herniation/bulges in the same session. I've never regretted for one minute the decision to go for surgery and you can believe me when I say it is a big decision, probably second only to proposing to my wife. Especially for a Canadian who has a doctor that says and I quote. "Canada is ten years behind the UK and twenty-five years behind the US in everything medical". Knowing this made it a little easier to make the decision. In some areas I do believe Canada is up in the ranks but definitely not in spinal surgery. The waiting list at most hospitals is now two years to see a specialist and then whatever time they come up with after that. We have had two suicides in the area where I live and I was talking to one of them but too late.

The AccuraScope is a minimally invasive procedure with the cut only about 1/4" and the time line for recovery measured in hours rather then months. My time line was; fly to Dallas on a Tuesday, go for pre-op Wednesday, operation on Thursday and out for supper with my wife in the evening, post-op and fly home Friday. I compare the post op pain like having a sore finger compared to having a broken arm before that. The pain was minimal compared to having a herniated disc.

The great part about it all is that North American Spine were very caring throughout the process. I have had them reject four cases since and they were completely honest about all four. Some cases are inoperable. They did give me lots of advise on where to look for further treatment in all four cases.

I now have 132 people on my "bad back list" of which I have had 11 come back and 5 are preparing to go. All 11 that came back have been successful, a record that can't be matched in Canada.

Big, call me skeptical or whatever. I do think this type of surgery os going to eventually be the new surgery at some point. There are a couple of things that raise a red flag with me. In most instances in life when we see something & think its too good to be true, it usually is just that.

Do you remember anything about the group Laser Spine Institute? It is a joke & not to mention a total rip off. They have been sued over & over. They have financially ruined people, caused them to lose their homes, talk a big hype over how wonderful & successful they are. What it boils down to with them is they are doing basically what most pain mgt drs do with RF ablation & they call it surgery & it costs out the wazoo, not to mention the person needing tune ups from time to time. They will bill your insurance & accept what they pay but the balance owed is up to the patient to pay in full at the time of the procedure.

I have read North America's info & all I am saying is I would be very leery. It sounds so much like LSI & that scares me. If you don't remember LSI do a search here at the forum or got to their website. In fact, I urge you to go to LSI's website & read. Any time some facility does not go under contract with insurance companies to accept what they pay as full payment that send a huge red flag up for me. Lets face it, this day & age this is the way it works for us to get medical care.

Keep doing your homework & from what I am gathering they do the same as LSI, accept payment from your insurance & look to you for the balance on the day of the procedure. Not a good plan in my book. Yes, you have raised a very good point about the neurosurgeons.

Big, I noticed here at the forum that North American Spine & LSI are advertising together, just as I suspected I think they operate the same way. If this were me I would not let either touch me with a 10 foot pole.

Earlier today I saw their joint advertisement on Yahoo & then again here at the forum. It just sounded too good to be true & then I just kept seeing shades of LSI with North America.

I hope your mom gets ok. I know what you are going through & those feelings, I went through it with both of my elderly parents the last year each was alive.

I feel great. Words cannot describe how great not waking up to pain is. One of the guys that came back before Christmas says that North American Spine is the best Christmas present he ever could have bought himself. Another guy, who is 77 years old, had the AccuraScope procedure last fall and for the first time since he was 16 is pain free. He says he will never lift a 12 gallon cream can again as that's what he hurt his back with. That was 61 years of chronic pain. He has a smile that can't be wiped off and his wife says he is a completely different man to live with.
At the hotel after 10 of us had been cleared to go home I talked to everyone and they were all happy. One guy from Pennsylvania had been operated on five times by conventional surgery and they had all failed. The AccuraScope fixed him and again the smile was all you had to look at to know he was fixed.
My doctor says Canada is 10 years behind the UK and 25 years behind the US. That is what universal health care has got us. There is no incentive for doctors to do anything. Mostly they just lay around like a bunch of house cats.
