hydrocodone

Was on vicodin 7.5/325 for last 5 years my pain med docs staff screwed up my appointment so this weekend I just went through detox .found out I have a very mean person for the last couple years and my wife was about to leave me due to my being mean from taking the vicodin it is so weird now that I am mostly clear of the drug my pain has mostly gone away and I am a nicer guy now has anybody else had the problem of being told they had basically turned into an ****** due to the vicodin .I know feel like such a fool for staying on a med that was killing my 25 year marriage and actually making my pain worse.I have 12 bulging disc osteoarthritis and degenerative spinal disease so I have pain.but have found it is now manageable with over the counter meds

Welcome K426 to the forum. Meds and especially opiates effect folks in different ways but I know exactly what you are saying. I was on methadone for 13yrs and once I realized how much the med had effected my personality as well as my overall heath it was a rude awakening to say the least. I am a totally different person on and off of it. I cared very little about anything, was distant, cold and blunt to the point of obnoxiousness. It was stealing my life in ways i didnt know about. Im sure I did not realize the changes but neither did I care.

After getting off I could look back at me then and what I saw was scary. My pain as well decreased tremendously and although I am on a very low dose of narcotic its not effected my personality as the methadone had.

Glad you got off of something that was taking more than giving and thank goodness before you destroyed your marriage. Remember not all meds are created equal and should there come a time OTC doesnt control the pain there will be other meds that wont have the same effects.

Tramadol is one of those that hits different receptors working in a totally different capacity then hydro so it may be an option for you should you need it.

Kauer, welcome aboard. Your story sounds really familiar to me, like you I could handle vicodin. It wired me up something terrible which in turn increased the pain levels & I created mean when on that crap. Yes, it is very possible for apain medication to increase your pain rather than decrease it.

Have you tried Oxycodone?  I started my pain management taking Xodol which is Hydrocodone but it got me so sick no matter what dose.  I switched to Percocet and that worked for me.

Those Fentnayl patches are the devil to me.  Just about OD one day when cleaning out my garage to get my car inside before a storm.  I didn't realize the patch was on me until I started to sweat.  It dumped the entire dose into my body and I thought I was dead.  My wife watched me over the next few hours and luckily was fine.  It was my fault but once something happens like that you'll never do it again.
