Pain in toenails?

Weird topic, but hey, weird poster...

On the foot that has drop foot, I've got this severe pain in my toenails. It feels like roofing nails (kinda specific, I realize) are being driven under the nails, front to back, on the first four toes. Pinky toe not affected. The other foot and both hands are asymptomatic.

Happens in spurts.

In a respect I'm not technically complaining because before surgery I couldn't feel anything (unless I stubbed my toes). So in that sense, feeling something is better than feeling nothing. Just curious if anyone else has felt such specific and isolated pain as toenail pain?

Alcie, I get similar pain as you described, on the other foot, and have to keep my nails short. On the right (normal) foot, the nails are very thick too. Painful esp when they get too long and press against the toe box of my sneakers.

But this 'nail driving' pain in those 4 toenails is different. Feels neurological. I expressed having it to my doc years ago (wonder if it was related) and it was dismissed. Then came the numbness when the back really started the decline. Then after surgery all the hypersensitivity and such...

But this feels like dozens and dozens of times each day at random times, I'm getting a roofing nail tapped into the toe. Then it's gone, only to return. It's not constant. Sharp stabs of intermittent and very painful pain.

Wasn't sure if it was part of the nerves regenerating?
