I did use the search and found interesting results.  I wanted to start a new thread so this thread will come up for those that search in the future.

I'm having issues just like most on getting scripts filled since the new rules have come out.  On top of that Walgreens has a top secret check list that was revealed last week flagging customers.  CVS is flagging people on 24 hour wait time on scripts.  We are jumping through hoops just to manage our pain.

I currently have been taking Percocet (Oxycodone) 10/325 for 4 years.  Now I have to drive all over just to get it filled.  The feeling "I'm safe this month" after it gets filled is getting old.

On Wednesday I go back to my PM Dr for my neck injections.  My Ma & Pa pharmacy says they can provide me Opana as my insurance covers it.

Question is, Opana IR equivalent to Percocet IR? 

I'm not looking to Google this and read stuff that isn't relative to my situation.  I figure this is the place I feel safe to discuss this.

I have been on both percocet and opana, I think they are equally effective. I'm currently on the ER 10 mg 2x/ day and the IR 10 mg (just switched from 5) 4x/day.

Opana is stronger than percocet and contains no acetominaphen. That's my experience, the Opana works better for me. I felt that I built a tolerance more quickly to percocet. I am happy with the opana and don't plan on switching any time soon.

I could probably do away with the Aceta as I've been taking it for a long time.

I've been told Opana IR 15MG is equal to Oxycodone IR 30MG.

So my supposedly the Opana (Oxymorphone) totally breaks down differently than Percocet which seems to work differently when food is present. Opana does not have Acetametaphin either which may be better for as I could use a break after 4 years.

Yes - my opana says to take 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Do you know why? I don't - when you say it 'totally breaks down differently' what does that mean? I've been on the med for months, you'd think I should know.

From what I've read Opana sticks to lipoids in fatty foods so it's probably better to take before you eat or several hours after.  This way the break down will work correctly instead of sticking to something else.

Opana is one of the drugs of the future for us since it came out and was recalled and revamped a few years back and it is suppose to be totally abuse deterrant? Now I know some junkies that could probably argue they can find a way around that but I know from what I have read and gotten via Medscape for Nurses that they end up wasting most of the ingredients they after if they try.

In saying that I would go for it and it may be in the not so distant future we are all going to be on this new wave of meds Jp so you will be ahead of the game. Personally I believe the powers that be are going to require all meds to be as Opana and the new oxy as well as the MS that is prevailant in most pharmacy's and that is OK with us since we down break them down to shoot them anyway.

Which brings me to why do they not just go ahead and make all of them resistant to abuse in some way and take the others that cant be safely altered without changing the composition and leave us alone? If they stop the ability to abuse this stuff maybe just maybe we wouldnt have to be subjected to the garbage at all levels getting caught up with the abusers.

Thanks Vickie. Even if some meds become less addicting I think the general public will always think what we are taking is addictive. When people hear Oxy they automatically think of the overdose issue from years ago. Not many know they revamped the formula, only the bad things are remembered. Plus I'm in Florida, pain mill capital of the World.

Now it's making sense that Opana is covered by insurance because they know it's less addictive. I also take Nucynta ER which is made with a synthetic to trick the brain so it's known not be to be less addictive.

Xartemis XR will be the future since it cannot be snorted, crushed, turned into a liquid or eaten and its made with synthetic to be non-addictive. There is no euphoria which deters pill seekers. Even if taken with other opoids it will not mix with them. Take 2 every 12 hours as preventive medicine for pain. My insurance actually declined it since it came out a few months ago.

The Opana ER is abuse deterrent as I understand it because you cannot crush it, break it, etc. The IR version you CAN do that to, or dissolve it in water, whatever. So I'm not sure how the IR is abuse deterrent, but I did read somewhere that if you DO crush the ER tablet (which I read you can do by chipping away the protective coating) and try to snort it, it will turn into goop in your nose, LOL. I can't remember where I read that, somewhere when I was researching the med before I started taking it.

I think there is a euphoria though with the IR version. Personally I've never felt it b/c I'm so opiate tolerant, probably, but I'm pretty sure it is the same potential for abuse as any other opiate. I *think* - I could be wrong.
