New PM practice

At the beginning of october my PD of over 5 years informed her pts she was closing her practice as of Nov 1st. She had been out for 6 months having surgery but told eveyone when she came back that she was well and ready to resume practice. While gone she had another practice covering her pts and we were even told that she was going to merge with this practice but that did not happen. I had thought that everything was great and that I was lucky to have her but found out some things about her practice that now make me wonder. They gave us a list of other practices but they were mostly interventional practices only and there have nothing to offer me. Luckily one of her assistants I got to know well sent my info to the practice that covered for her for 6 months and they accepted me.

Had my first visit and they are great. Because I have 2 insurances did not have to pay anything up front. I used to pay $180 a visit and to have that money back in our budget will make a big difference. Saw the same NP as I did when they covered the other practice and after a physical and discussion she continued my meds since they are working great for me. I was worried as we all are with new caregivers.

So glad to read the new clinic is a good move for you. Wow, are you saying with your prior dr she made her patients pay up front, who filed the claim with insurance? Good grief that is why people have insurance. That does sound rather strange, so combined with the things you have learned about her it sounds like you will be much better off with this change.

I don't blame you for being suspicious about a Dr. That charges you $180 up front when you have ins. I take it that your ins was also billed, is that correct? Also, why aren't the other Pts that were being taken care of by this other practice being accepted from the old one? I'm glad that you are getting the care you need and deserve . . . Q

We were responsible for filing our own insurance. There were some sour grapes I think when the merger did not go through and she tried to discourage pts from going with the practice I am with now. Like I said looking back there are a number of things that make me wonder. She was local, caring and promised the moon. I am very happy with my new practice.

I'm so glad it all worked out. Change is so hard, especially when we feel like we are being judged and need to prove ourselves to deserve treatment.

Out of curiosity, what is being done for your facial pain? I'm on a ton of meds for other issues, but I take 100mg of Amytriptlyine and trigeminal nerve blocks for the face.

My son just learned the old joke--"Does your face hurt? No, well it's killing me..."

So funny...

Feel blessed to have been given the name of a good, other PM. I have seen way too many times, and in my own journey, Dr's leaving and they just give you some generic list and your left searching, in pain, and desperate.

My PCP and Neuro Dr's (both that helped me SO much and are the 2 of my drs i trust the most) just left, because the hospital that took over most all healthcare in my city is horrible to work for or be treated by and as my PCP said "I've done my time with them").
Then you get a letter a month before they leave to fend for yourself...its hard.

I wish you the best and hope this turns out to be even better than the treatment you were getting before.
