The continuing saga of CPers in Florida

Well as of today I am the proud owner of a new (old) name on an official Florida ID. The lady probably violated every regulation they had but it was almost laughable considering all the malarkey I have went through in 2 years. I went in early this morning armed with my 2 notarized affidavits, birth certificate, expired ky dl, 3 pieces of mail, my lease and all the Florida statues printed in large print and highlighted! Told the first window what I needed and the woman says to me why not just get id in your maiden name you have a SS card don't you? NO can't get one without id. So she hands me a paper that swears this is my SS number and raise my right hand and sign it, in your maiden name, take this paper and number and wait to be called. Get called after half hour and get another lady and she looks at the papers and says the mail, lease, dl don't match and I know I'm getting turned away again!! I told her why they didn't and why I needed to use maiden name, she looks at me shrugs her shoulders and says hey it's your id?? Asks if I want to be an organ donor, register to vote, step behind the line and smile for the camera?? What?? All this time, all these battles and NO One ever said do it this way??

So I now have a Florida id in my maiden name, Dr changed medical records, and script issued. Spent the day going to about 10 pharmacys and No luck. Either didn't carry or was out and the most frustrating was Medicine shoppe, Kmart, Target and 2 mom and pop places had huge signs at counter stating they were taking NO NEW PAIN MANAGEMENT PATIENTS " Well if that's not discrimination and singling an entire group of ppl out to treat unfairly what is? Did not see one sign saying no more diabetic patients!!

So have id, have script and still no meds. One CVS said they had 100 but not 120 so may have to go in tomorrow and lower my dose and get new script.

This is stupid. I was also told by a pharmacy tech that Walgreens is under sanctions and cannot fill CII meds. Now I haven't had a chance to check that out and see what I can find but thought it interesting.

Vickie, I am so glad you were finally able to get this taken care of. I was trying to find out about Walgreens not being able to fill Schedule II rxs and I ran across the online complaints & reviews at Walgreens. Thought it was interesting so I've put the link below. I haven't found anything that says Walgreens can't fill Schedule II meds.

I am still trying to wrap my mind around this fiasco. It's absolutely insane. I never thought I'd see this type of mistreatment in my lifetime. I am happy for you that you're edging your way forward in this debacle while simultaneously, I admit the surmounting frustration.

Crazy, crazy, crazy....And I do agree with you. Talk about discrimination. This is horse pucky plain and simple. They're selectively turning away patients based on medical dx. I really do hope this gets resolved, for you and for everyone else going through this mess....

I saw that too - whoa! Is this what the pharmacies are dealing with when the "real" CP people are not there?

For some reason I thought you were talking about something that happend with Walgreens this year, regarding them "getting into trouble." The only thing I found regarding them not being able to fill Schedule II's states "In addition to the $80 million civil penalty for the above violations, the settlement revokes the Registrants’ ability to distribute or dispense controlled substances listed in Schedules II – V for two years, ending in 2014." Even though the title says Colorado, Florida is one of the states.

Mercy that's what 2 different pharmacy's said when I was trying to find my meds. Both said "did you get caught up in Walgreens trouble with them NOT being able to fill narcotics? I read the papers daily and hadn't seen anything recently except the release of their secret checklist thing so I thought maybe the Rphs knew something we didn't.

It's wonderful you finally got an ID, but what a horrible mess the pharmacies are making of all this. I think what bothers me the most is that these are medicines for people who are hurting and need compassion and treatment. Yes, I'm sure there are fraudulent prescriptions filled, but it's not fair to punish so many people in need of medicine just for that, by making their pain medication unavailable. Grrr. Hopefully some legislator will finally see the light and realize the laws are hurting more people than they're helping.
