Hi Fluke,
Unfortunately, I don't really -- not anything other than the success stories put out by the stimulator companies on their websites. Sadly, I think that you are going to be hard pressed to find a lot of information about
success stories outside of those provided by the stimulator companies, simply because as I said before, people who have had successful treatments or surgeries just don't tend to post online like the people who have had bad experiences do.
I think your best bet is going to be talking to the reps and talking to your doctor. You can certainly ask both of them about
their experiences with other patients, and how many of them had a successful trial/implantation, and how many of them had problems, etc. And they should be able to give you an unbiased answer based on their years of experience.
You might also ask them if they could possibly connect you with a former patient who did have success with their SCS, so that you could talk to them in person about
their experience. Of course, they won't be able to give you anyone's contact info directly right then because of HIPPA laws. But what they might be able to do is contact one of their patients themselves, and ask that patient if it would be okay to give out their contact info to you so that you could contact them to ask them about
their experience.
I know that Medtronics actually does have patient ambassadors -- real patients that have a Medtronics SCS implanted -- that you can talk to on the phone if you have questions about
anything regarding the whole process, the implant, their experience, etc. I never took advantage of this program, myself, but it may be something that you might find helpful, if you want to hear more about
patient success stories, etc.
Here is the website with information about
the patient ambassador program:
www.tamethepain.com/chronic-pain/get-support/patient-ambassador-program/.
Also if you have not visited Medtronics' "Tame the Pain" website before, I'd suggest checking it out. As it has a lot of good information about
the Medtronics SCS and other Medtronics devices for chronic pain specifically for potential candidates. It is a much better/more useful website for patients than the regular Medtronics site. Here is the link:
www.tamethepain.com/chronic-pain/index.htm?p=3 They also have a bunch of patient stories (videos) on the "Tame the Pain" website.
Hope this helps! Wishing you luck. Hope you find the answers you need!
