ACDF 7 months ago still in pain

I had the ACDF surgery back in July 2014 C5 and C6. I felt great after the recovery but recently started to get pain back in my neck and shoulder some days its really bad. Has anyone else ever experienced that ?

Hi Yanko & welcome to the forum. So sorry to read what is going on with you.

We have had a few members that recently had this same surgery & they have documented their story with follow up appts & progress. If you will use our search feature here at the forum & type in Abilene & Taller Now I think you will get some great info from their stories. One of them was having this very problem & come to find out it was caused by her posture so she started paying attention to her posture & it helped her a great deal.

Weekends tend to be slow so keep checking back. Again welcome aboard.

I'm glad to read this thread. I had ACDF in C3-4 and now have pain in neck and shoulder too. Pain doc hasn't found the location of the problem. I've had multiple injections and nerve ablations that haven't stopped the pain. I've seen an orthopedic surgeon too. I do have shoulder problems, chip loose, but I'm positive this is a nerve problem. My pain radiates down my bicep muscle, sometimes causes numbness in my hand and fingers.

I hitch up my shoulders a lot. Didn't realize it until orthopod told me. Dropping my shoulders helps reduce the pain. It's not gone, but is some better.

So sorry to read that you are having pain again after feeling better for a short time. Posture was an important issue for me-it's hard to relax those shoulders. PT and continuing it at home has been very helpful for the shoulders especially. Of course, there's always the possibility of a different level needing attention now. I hope that's not the problem.

My thread is Posterior C3-7 laminectomy and fusion....
