Well, I've actually had a week of increased pain, after getting intercostal injections of a steroid for my post-herpetic (shingles) pain, rather than any relief.
The soreness from the shots themselves was gone in a day, but my nerves under the long-healed rash, along my back and side, were stirred up and painful for about
a week, and finally are starting to settle down to the same pain as before the injections. Not what I hoped for. After maybe some extra pain for a couple days, it was supposed to improve after 3-5 days.
The doctor who did the injections and especially his nurses/staff have been less than helpful, just kinda shrug and say oh well, doesn't always work. One nurse even tried to say my pain wasn't increased, but my wife straightened her out. It's true, it doesn't always work, but a little more sympathy would have been nice.
The doctor is sorta wanting to try a second injection, but I'm thinking just to give up with him. My regular palliative care doctor suggested his last idea, increasing my gabapentin from 1200mg a day to 1500mg and maybe 1800mg a day, to see if that helps, so I started 300mgx5 yesterday.
Get your shingles shots, folks! You do not want this!
