Hip pain

This is long, I am sorry.. it is from my last xray 3 years ago. I am a 40 year old female; was diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis 9 years ago. I work full time in a Residential Care Facility. I have daily pain in my hips where they feel like they will bust out the sides, lower back/sacral pain, along with muscles spasms/pain in my piriformis muscles, sciatica down both legs, usually to toes, I need someone to put all this in Layman's terms for me if possible. At L4-L5 there is a broad based posterior disc bulge with flattening of the anterior dural sac. There is hypertrophy of ligamentum flavum with obliteration of the parathecal sac. Moderate bilateral facet joint osteophytes, small endplate osteophytes are noted along the posterior aspect of lower end plate of L4. L5-L6 there is a significant disc bulge with evidence of spinal stenosis. There is flattening of the anterior dural sac. Both neural foramens are reduced due to bulging disc. There is extrusion of disc material in left neural foramen with compression on the left exiting nerve root. Evidence of disc degeneration and vacuum phenomenon is noted. Subchondral sclerosis is noted at the lower endplate of L5 and upper endplate of L6. Significant anterior and posterior endplate osteophytes are noted at the lower endplate of L5, posterior endplate osteophytes are abutting anterior dural sac. There are moderate facet joint osteophytes. At L6 S1 there is minimal broad based posteror dic bulge with flattening of anterior dural sac. Mild to moderate facet joint osteophytes are noted. Mindor degenerative changes noted along the superior aspect of both SI joints. I am in excruciating pain 24/7 Dr said no to surgery, having nerve blocks in June..

Hello and welcome to the forum. Susie has given you excellent advice. I also have bulging discs and neural foraminal narrowing. Simply put, the pathways for the nerves are getting smaller. This does not affect my sciatic nerve, but another that goes through the buttocks and down the thigh but stops at the knee. I've had sciatica too, but this other nerve is more prevalent. I also have osteophytes, bone spurs, in the cervical spine.

So far, I've had 2 rounds of epidural injections in the lumbar spine which did wonders for my pain issues and lasted for about a year each time. How long it lasts varies from person to person and also varies from procedure to procedure. I'm getting ready to have another set done soon. Meanwhile, ice packs are my best friend! I see a pain management doctor for these injections.

Get updated MRI and get as many opinions as you think you may need. Keep posting, let us know how it goes.

I am so sorry to read the difficulty you are having with getting proper medical care. I am not sure what your relationship is like with your GP but if at all possible push for a new MRI & a consult with a good neurosurgeon. That old MRI warrants you needing the above.
