Pain Pump 48 hours later

I had a pain pump put in 48 hours ago. I have to admit yesterday was rough just from the surgery itself. I am very pleased with it. I am getting so much more relief than I have been in the past few years. Mine is filled with Dilaudid. I did a trial with Morphine and it didn't work. I have only had to use my PTM 3 times. Once only today. I didn't have to do a psych eval mostly because I wrote out a 3 page letter to my PM doc explaining my journey and he said he has never had a patient do that before and that it helped him to be able to see the road that I have traveled. I don't know why this wasn't suggested long before now. Yes I do, I've had pretty bad PM docs before.

I deal with DDD, Dystonia, Bulging discs in L4,L5, Osteoarthritis and Neuropathy.

Trac, so glad to read that the pump is helping you. This has been my form of pain mgt since June 2005. I have a Codman pump that was implanted Feb. 2013 because the battery finally died in my Medtronics pump. I did get a long battery life out of that pump. Unfortunately, this Codman is not working correctly which we have known for months. I had scheduled my revision surgery for a new Medtronics Feb. 10th of this year but had to cancel it because of a cyst abscessing. At this time the cyst still has not healed & my PM dr says no to any surgery until it completely heals. He says the risk of infection in the spine is just too great. I understand his position but that doesn't make my pain level any better, lol. He fears I have a granuloma at the tip of the catheter & even though that makes the revision a rush job our hands are tied at this point.

I do hope your dr encouraged you to use the PTM as much as needed as this will help him determine what you will need from your PTM.

Are you in the states by chance? Its my understanding that not only do the drs but Medtronics require the psych evaluation. The psych eval was no big deal, its mainly geared to make sure a person has no problem with something being implanted in them & they have reasonable expectations on what the pump will do for their pain level.

I too have Dilaudid in my pump, I could not handle Morphine in it either. I am ok with a little Morphine in an injection but not much.

I do hope that your success continues forever. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Congratulations on your new pump and hopefully it will continue to bring better relief as your body adjusts to the different delivery system. Looking forward to following your progress.
