Hi All,
I had intramuscular ulnar nerve transposition in my left arm in November 2014. I had been dealing with nerve issues since early 2013 and decided to go ahead with the surgery as the nerve issues, pain and weakness were only getting worse and I didn't want to suffer permanent nerve damage.
My surgeon was quite fantastic and the surgery went extremely well. He put a nice thick, padded splint on my arm to protect the incision and nerve and I wore that for a few weeks and then was released to just wearing a wrist brace to prevent torsion. I did a bit of the physical therapy, but the therapist was kind of a nit-whit and I was capable of just using what I learned on my own.
I lift weights as my primary means of fitness and that's how I discovered the nerve issue. It started as just electric shocks and graduated into more numbness, tingling and pain. After 8 months out of the lifting game (which is much longer than I needed to be due to personal issues) I am finally back to lifting again. However, the muscle groups I struggled with the most prior to surgery - chest and shoulders - still seem to bother me. Anytime I'm performing pressing movements like bench or overhead press, I get the electric shocks in my elbow and up my forearm. It doesn't hurt, necessarily, but it is uncomfortable. I did a chest day today and my left hand, primarily my ring and pinky finger feel a bit numb and uncomfortable. Outside of lifting, I have experience other minor issues sometimes when I grab something firmly.
Have any of you had similar experiences? I'm not sure if it's still too soon to expect no nerve issues at all or if it would be worthwhile to see my surgeon again. The only problem with seeing him again is that he has transferred to a whole different facility so I would basically be starting over at a new place.
Thanks,
E
