As some of the others have said 4 months is pretty soon to ask for an increase. But I also had developed a tolerance quickly to oxycodone and needed more to get the same relief. I could not believe how good it worked for me when I first started taking it but that quickly faded which is why I take something different now.
I found a way to ask for more meds which may not raise the red flags for doctors as much. After I had been on the same dose for probably 2 years I told the doctor that on some days when the pain is worse I could use an extra pill. So I asked if he could give me some extras.
He added 20 pills to my usual prescription and I made sure to take one only when really needed. The next month when I saw him he asked how it went and I told him I only took 5 extra so I was still set for a while and went back to the original amount. (Doctors really appreciate it when you say you don't need more) Then every 3 or 4 months he would give me another 20 extra.
I think it has been three years now and the last time I saw him I told him I am getting close to taking all 20 extra each month so he knows soon he will raise it so I get an "extra" every day.
Three years is a long time for me to go without raising the amount so I think it has worked really well for me. I think it works because you know that you have an extra one to take if the pain is really bad but you don't get used to taking it every day.
