Hydromophone (Dilauded) Withdrawl

4mg Hydromophone 5-6 time daily for chronic pain. Went cold turkey on Saturday Morning and now ending day 4 without the drug. I had to come off to accept a new job. Never abused or injected, oral only. Been on it for 6 years or so. Doc wanted me to cut back slowly but didn't have time for that cycle. I have read many posts and was scared at first but knew I had to get off the stuff. I want to post what I experienced day to day.

Day 1: Worst day of my life. I wanted to jump out of my skin. Nausea to include vomiting was rampant. Could not sleep. This was the worst day of my life.

Day 2: Thought day 1 was tough. I was wrong. Day 2 was even worse than da 1. No sleep and almost quit and went back to the pill. Good thing I had a strong support system

Day 3: Side effects continued but the puking stopped along with the nausea. Still felt like a train ran me over. Sore bones, muscles, and skin. Very agitating.

Day 4: Woke up and some of the side effects were lessened. Warm bath with salts seemed to calm the burning skin. Got 2 short naps in and starting to feel a little better. I am sure the next day will tell the story.

Day 5: Almost there.

I don't blame anyone for wanting to come off this life controlling pill.. I will never go back! It has been tough, very friggen, tough but I will make it. I found nothing could lessen the side effects so just puch through it.

Congratulations on your success but is the underlying condition that put you on the medication lessened or gone? Coming off any long term opiate is not easy and some folks prefer cold turkey over titration but it is extremely hard on the body to do that and should be done under the care of a physician since there are many things that can go wrong,dehydration,hypertension,just to mention a few. We always recommend talking to your Dr and having him onboard with the plan. Some meds are harder to get off of then others and hydromorph is one of them.

Wow.That had to have been rough.We're you in Pain Management?

Like Vickie,I'm wondering about what you were prescribed the Dilaudid for,and is that going to cause problems.

I've been prescribed Hydromorphone,2mg x 4 a day,and I understand not being able to perform a job while taking it.Just wondering if the pain that caused you to take it is going to be a problem.

Dilaudid I think is the worst med to kick.

I was in the hospital for 11 days in 2010 and I would get dilaudid every 3 hours. On day 12, 13 & 14 I had terrible withdrawl symptoms like you. I swore never to take it again.

Last year my PM wanted me to take a daily med and the only one I could get filled was Exalgo (dilaudid 8MG). I figured it's a daily and 8MG was the lowest dosage they make.

Like you I had to kick it because 2 weeks later I was starting a new job. OMG, same darn symptoms again, was horrible. I don't have an addictive quality at all. Quit smoking, drinking, many meds cold turkey never to go back again so I'm very strong willed.

So after these 2 times, never again, this time I mean it.
